My dad had a Dachsund who passed away last night, just one month shy of his 14th birthday. I wasn't emotionally attached to the animal, but I'm glad that he had long run and that he is no longer suffering. 🙏 Had no idea they were a common breed at shelters.

I adopted a border collie/aussie mix from the shelter at 2.5 months, and borders are my absolute favorite breed of dogs----smart, affectionate, highly trainable (Aussis are the same). When my girl is out showing off her tricks for folks, people have described her as "my dream dog" and generally are shocked that I got her at a shelter. There are ALL kinds of breeds at shelters and if you want a dog that isn't on a list, i recommend just waiting for the right one to pop up around your area, be persistent, and willing to drive around a bit. (I picked up my girl from a shelter 2.5 hours away, but it was soooo worth those two five hour trips!

Only one is from a breeder, Skye
