I have a Heeler and the description is spot on. He can handle extremes in both hot and cold temperatures, is highly alert to his surroundings, doesn’t need a leash to stay on trail or close, will not run off for prey or strangers, and has incredible drive and jaw strength. All wrapped up in a 50 lb dog that’s more loyal with everlasting energy than just about any breed I’ve experienced.

Is am amazing guard dog and is always by my side and makes sure I'm always safe. Best dog because is not to big and can go anywhere with me.

Fun fact: Norwegian elkhound doesn’t hunt elk, they hunt moose. The Norwegian word for moose is ‘elg’ so the original name of the dog breed is ‘Norsk elghund’.

I take my Rotty with me every year scouting for Deer & Elk, and camping. He Loves it, and so do I. He is by far my Best Friend.

I took my 3 yr. old Kangal on a ten day camping trip for the first time to Idaho last May. Best camping buddy ever.

I'd take my Labrador retriever, they're very versatile in the wilderness and alert to wildlife around them, which could be lifesaving. When I was 13, my yellow lab saved my life when she spotted a cougar and scared it off, I didn't even know it was in the bushes

This is my favorite video because you included the Rhodesian ridgeback isn't for first time dog owners and respond only to positive training. Its more knowledgeable than almost every ridgeback video I've seen on YouTube with those facts alone.

American Bulbulldogs have to be on this list. Strong happy good discernment and unless it's very hot out, ours can hike for hours. Loves the grandchildren!

I would take my 3 Belgian Malinois, they are tireless and they are naturally guard dogs

The heeler has to be one of the best to survive in the wild. Australian out back is a unforgiving place, water and food is scarce, the distance is vast and often featureless, weather is harsh and rarely any shelter in sight. Basically if you get lost there you may as good as dead. The dingo lives on that terrace and the blue healer is half dingo

I prefer Dogo Argentino or cane corso.
Because I have those dogs.
And honestly sometime when I roaming and camping in forests (I live in India and Dooars forest near my home approx 5 mile), I took them with me. They are very good companion.

I love my Akita and I know he's getting on in age but when the time comes I'd get another one in a heartbeat

I am surprised that St. Bernards aren't on your list, given their background as rescue dogs in the Alps, thick coat and huge muscularity. The few I've known are quite protective, and were a very effective guardian .

German shepherds are awesome that’s why I have 2. Very easy to train!

Rodhesian Ridgeback all the way. Outstanding sight and scent hound and amazing guard dog. Otherwise I would have a Portuguese Mastiff (Rafeiro Alentejano). Loyal, reliable, protective and strong, these rustic dogs can endure all kind of temperate environmental conditions.😉

My Parsons Terrier mix may not be a survival expert but is a wonderful hiking companion. She happily hikes 10 miles with me and then rides on my shoulders for the rest ❤😂 or in my coat if the temperatures are below 30.
