Most people instantly think of herding dogs, which play a vital role in many livestock farms.
These breeds corral animals through paddocks and keep the flock in formation, preventing animals from wandering off.
On a similar note, there are guardian breeds that protect farm animals from wolves, coyotes, and other predators.
Around the farm, you’ll also find less-obvious jobs that exist for doggos.
There are several breeds that originated pulling carts that delivered goods and supplies between points.
Among working dogs, there is an elite list of pups that cross off enough boxes to earn a coveted role on the farm.
These dogs are so good at what they do, they’re a must-have for making farm life easier.
In this video we have listed 10 of the best farm dog breeds that you can own.

I know Akitas were not bred for farm work but the first one I had, Bogey, was great. He would keep livestock from wandering away, fend off predators, and pull a wagon in warm weather and a sled in the winter. He needed plenty of family time and was a great watchdog. When the neighbors were stationed in Turkey, their corgi used to round up toads and herd them back and forth across their driveway.

Malinois, Kelpie, Catahoula Leopard dog, Texas Hanging Tree cow dog, Alibi aka Central Asian Shepherd, I have even seen several longer legged Pit Bulls do well.

Great Pyr's roam like crazy. Amazing farm dogs, but need a strong and tall fence. Consider the Pyrenean Mastiff...from the other side of the mountains, and are super home bound

I was glad to see the Corgi getting a good rating. I was told about a farm that had sheep and cattle, but there dogs where only good with sheep. Happens sometimes. Relatives visited from the city on a day when they had cattle in the yards. It was wet and mucky. The first they new about the corgi was when a head appeared under the gate showing a big grin. It took a little while for the dog and people got understand each other. For the rest of the day that little dog worked well.

I have a Kelpie, a very smart and loyal dog, one of the most popular working breeds in Australia.

The Australian Kelpie seems to never get a mention in farming dog and intelligent dog comparisons, yet it's arguably the best. Maybe add it in your next video.

We have a Texas Blue Lacy, the national dog of Texas. This breed developed in Texas for ranch work. They are herders, stay close to home, and great watch dogs quick to alert if any strangers approach. They are excellent at keeping varmints away. Willing to defend their territory, they are a medium sized dog of pure muscle willing to fight even a large coon to protect the farm.

Dutch herder is a good breed for a farm dog, his versality ranged from guarding to herding

Kelpie and huntaway, both out and out farm dogs. It would be them and the collie in my top 3.
