Solo Travel Mistakes 🫡

Traveling season is here, so for today’s video I decided to help the beginner solo travelers out! 😏

When I just started traveling solo I did all of these things… and many more…

Learn from my mistakes so your first solo trips will be fun, affordable, and safe!

Don’t book your accommodations too far in advance because you want to be able to be flexible and spontaneous!

Download offline maps so when you have no signal you can still find your way.

Don’t just visit the standard places. You want have an original story when you come home!

Always make sure people know where you are. Share your location and tell your family where you’re staying.

Always research the city you’re going to. Every city has their bad neighbourhoods.

Never overpack, you’ll immediately regret it.

And finally, always talk to locals (and other travelers)! 😁 Solo traveling is not the same lonely traveling!

Edit: These are things you should do, not avoid ^^
Plan for things you really want to see and the optional locations. By this you always have some alternatives if the first options are disappointing or closed.

Walk instead of using public transport. During my sabbatical travels, I discovered the best things and met the most interesting people by simply walking through the streets.
Inform yourself in advance about the cultural do's and don'ts of the country you plan to go to. With this you avoid misunderstandings and in worst case und more serious trouble.

Be polite, modest and discreet and keep yourself in the background. By doing this, I was invited into a tibetian buddhist ceremony in a temple and was offered to stay there over night in the Hinalayas. Or invited to a wedding of refugees from Myanmar in north eastern Thailand.
I didn't plan to do any of this and only stood in a respectful distance and had a look at what happened there.

How can you plan too far in advance? Why would you not have a basic template of what you intend to do?

I mean you need to plan with advance is important for fly tickets and hotels/airbnb at least 3-6 months of anticipation is enough tho
And 7, I mean sometimes locals are really cool, I made friends when I was travelling alone

Make sure you have paper copies of all your travel tickets and some back-up money you can access if you lose your phone and wallet.

Got pickpocketed in Brussels back in February losing my phone and bank cards leaving me with no money or ways to access it.

Luckily I had friends on the same trip, the youth hostel was able to print my coach and flight tickets back, and it was on my last night there.

I would have been stranded and penniless if not for all of the above.

forget to transfer file on the phone into laptop or cloud before traveling, so you have bigger memory on the phone to take photos and videos 😂

Dont go to turistic restaurant spots. Its expensive and scam. Instead go to restaurants further from typical tourist locations.
