A man walking into any restaurant anywhere without a shirt is rude, not just in Thailand.

Most ATMs where I live in Chiang Mai start to beep immediately after you take the money and don't stop until you take the card. I find this is a great improvement because it's hard to walk away with an ATM still beeping. Yes, it will take your card eventually. So, don't walk away if it's beeping. It's trying to tell you something. In any case, never travel with just one card. Things can happen. At least have a credit card you can use until your new debit card arrives.

Hi Paddy you could have added value to your ATM section by advising that for foreign bank cards it is better to press the continue without conversion button as you get a better rate for your money than if you convert while using the ATM. I do get that you wouldnt see this if you are using a local bank card.

I'm heading over for my 3rd visit for 3 weeks this December. The rushing around bit is so important. Figuring out the balance of seeing a place, traveling, and variety is a challenge, especially when you present so many awesome options! I think I'm stretching things with my plan for Bangkok, Chang Mai, Koh Lanta, and Jomtien. But there is always next year, and hopefully retirement to see much more at a comfortable pace! I agree about the laundry. I am here long stay and I have to wash often. Even in the cooler weather, like now, in October, my clothes get soaked from the humidity even if I am outside for a short time.

I really enjoyed the video! I'm not an international travel newbie but I learned a few new things.
Me and my partner are going to Thailand in April 2025. 10-days, Bangkok, Phuket and Pattaya, bit of a whirlwind but we're looking forward to it. My dad was stationed at U-Tapao Airbase in 1970 (near Pattaya) and have been intrigued by this country for decades though pictures and the art he got while he was there. I still have the art and most of the pictures, but he passed a few years ago. It's not just a vacation, it's also a fact finding tour since I'm considering retiring outside the US and Thailand is on the short list. Next trip in 2026 may be Northern Thailand and maybe Vietnam.

Biggest mistake, not going to Isan. This is the real Thailand, virtually zero tourists but people with the biggests hearts and so, so welcoming. This is the hidden gem, don't tell your mates.

Now is the time for the north perfect temps very rarely rains, loy kathong, hill tribe festival in Mae Sai, colors if Doi Tung, and for different Thai treat the inter school sports days. Great video Paddy, all the best.

Once a small street ATM swallowed my card on my second Day of holidays... I mean never returned it, I didn't forget to take it off. A nightmare to solve ! Now I only use ATMs inside a bank during opening hours. That is a lesson I learned the hard way
