I think it depends what area of London you are in. A lot of people in the comments disagree that phone stealing is a problem but I have definitely heard many stories of it happening. Its better to be safe than sorry.

Hey!! londoner here. another big thing to remember is ALWAYS LET PEOPLE OFF OF PUBLIC TRANSPORT FIRST BEFORE GETTING ON

I live in London never had my phone stolen although there have been attempts the main thing is situational awareness if you no where you are and are aware of your surrounding you should be ok if you go to a very poor area and walk very late at night expect to be approached by 3 to 4 people that are hooded up

A gentleman from china came up to me and asked for the currency exchange place. I told him no do not go there at post office hed get more for his money and showed him where. What made me sad is multiple people ignored him. We are all tourists somewhere. Be kind. ❤

As a born and bred Londoner I think you just are 100% more likely to be target by phone thieves if you’re a tourist- the only people I know to have gotten their phone stolen are from out of town. I will say some tried to grab mine once (I was outside of a touristy restaurant and they made me scan a qr code to join to waiting list) but that’s when all the neurons activated at once or something and I screamed at him with my best Londoner voice and started chasing him and he dropped it 😂😂😂 I was ready to become batman after that

ok as a londoner these are great tips however, the phone thing is really not that serious, it depends on the area. i don’t know anyone who’s had their phone stolen but again that’s in my area so just be safe! watch out for pick pockets in tube and train stations there’s so many especially at victoria station and camden town, so just be safe and don’t talk to people you don’t know obviously and don’t make a scene when you’re out you become a target!

Hey!! londoner here. Another big thing is whenever you're on an escalator. STAY ON THE RIGHT!
STAY ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ESCALATOR!
THE LEFT SIDE IS FOR PEOPLE IN A RUSH, I KNOW YOUR ARSE ISNT IN A DAMN RUSH.

I live in a rough area (SE) and have never had a single phone stolen or attempted to be stolen
Situational awareness goes hard

The best way to not get robbed is to walk correctly

Basically walk like you know the place inside out, or walk like you need to be somewhere. Helps deter anyone who would rob you. And dont just hold your phone out. Bag, pocket, anything like that

I can confirm the whole phone situation. I didn’t get it snatched out of my hand (but have seen it happen a bunch) but I was physically assaulted, where my whole bag was stolen & they hurt me real bad.

Please be safe and aware of your surroundings.

I spent 3 weeks in London last summer and I got a phone strap because of the phone snatchers. On my very last night someone on a tried to snatch my phone (in central London, on Oxford street!) and the phone strap saved it! Totally worth buying before going to any busy city, but especially London.

Another tip to not be an annoying: On the escalators, don’t clog up the entire thing, stand on the right. Left is for walking. And if you don’t, I will personally force you to have an incredibly awkward conversation with a Londoner on the tube ❤

I personally don't take my phone when I go out but the main thing is you keep it safe and close to you at all times especially in popular/crowded places like central London

Just be aware and don't walk around preoccupied... in lived in London all my life and never had any issues .

The problem really is that there are too many people in London that are completely unaware of their surroundings. Phone snatching is just 1 example of that. Standing on the left side of the escalators in train stations, groups of people taking the whole pavement, and many more. I have lived in london my whole life and have never had my phone snatched, although I've seen it many times. Can't blame anyone but yourself for choosing to be unaware of anything around you.

i live near london, pick pocketing is definitely becoming more and more common but be aware and take precautions like zipped pockets, bum bags etc and you’ll be good
public transport is brilliant don’t even bother with driving in london, as much as i curse the tubes they’re so practical and if you have a card on apple pay u can use here you can just tap and it will cap it at the daily limit
