I’m sorry about the train ride, someone has miss guided you to a wrong compartment.
If you have reserved 1st or 2nd class(reserved) tickets no one else can sit on those seat, there are separate compartments for them and I’m sure have miss guided someone to a non reserved second class compartment.

This is some really good advice. As trains can get really busy during weekends it is advisable to catch the train during weekdays. Also you can catch the train to ella from a place called Peradeniya which is less busy than the kandy train station.

If you want to sit in the train and enjoy the badulla train ride, you have to get the train by Kandy railway station at 4.00 a.m. it's a slow train going between Kandy and badulla. And it's the best train for this ride. Therefore you have to come early in the morning (before 4 am) to Kandy railway station. Because this train is starting only in Kandy
