Ranking How USELESS Amy is in Every Sonic Game

Amy Rose is one of the most inconsistent characters in gaming. Sometimes she's completely helpless and is basically Princess Peach, and other times, she's just as useful as Sonic.

Today, we're looking at Amy's character in every mainline Sonic game and ranking her from worthless to elite.

There’s another thing about Amy’s portrayal in Superstars that puts her into Elite: her kindness to Trip in Lagoon City is what convinced Trip to definitively abandon the villains and join up with the rest of the heroes, just like she did with Gamma and Shadow

Amy is an amazing character when done right. She deserves so much more respect and if she’s in the movie, i think she could be portrayed amazingly.

In retrospect, Amy is easily the most inconsistently written character of the entire Sonic franchise. Sega just doesn't know what to do with her.

1. Amy was in Sonic CD because of her tarot cards. She and Sonic were destined to meet and he's canonically known her even longer than even Tails. Amy and Sonic's feelings fluctuate due to them growing up as the series goes on, but they genuinely care a lot about each other despite getting on each other's nerves sometimes.

2. Unleashed is probably where Sonic genuinely starts to truly reciprocate her feelings since she supported him even in his Werehog form. He even agrees to go on a date with her. (Unfortunately, it's the same date he was late for due to Black Knight.)

3. Amy was essentially the second-in-command for the Resistance in Forces (and was frankly, a better leader than Knuckles was). This is brought up in the canon-compliant IDW comics where they discuss her role a lot and even have her lead the Restoration efforts for SEVERAL arcs. Sonic is very supportive of her efforts and admires her desire to help others.

Amy's history throughout the series is rather interesting. You can tell that Sega have been struggling to figure out the ideal way to portray her in both gameplay and narrative with the constant changes made throughout the decades. I think they have finally settled on what they want to do with her now that Sega are marketing her along with Sonic, Tails and Knuckles as a group.

I'd like to see some return of her advance gameplay. While being unable to curl into a ball was annoying (and made no sense considering she is also a hedgehog) I always enjoyed the added height she got with her hammer jumps and the double height on springs when hit by the hammer. Advance 3 got it right when you made Sonic her partner as she kept those perks while still being able to curl into a ball.

06 Amy is so underrated, people only remember her for "I would choose Sonic" and then ignore how well she's used and characterized.

In Frontiers, I’d put her in Elite, she cared for each of the Koko the second she was freed and helped them solve each of their problems, without having any clue who or what they were. When Sage warned Sonic of his actions, Amy defended Sonic and his honor for protecting the world and his friends. And of course, played a major role in Saving Sonic’s life and helping with the cyber corruption, helping Sage defend against The End with that shield, and finding the Chaos Emeralds. I’d honestly say this is her best portrayal

I’m so glad you mentioned Amy helping Shadow realize there’s good in people. I feel like even Sega tries to ignore that by changing that role in adaptions of the story and people just straight up ignoring it.

Rating Amy as “sorta capable” in Sonic Frontiers is absolutely criminal bruh💀 she was written as well as her other “elite” rankings and had the best Amy gameplay we’ve had in over a decade

3:49 just a fun fact: if you are playing the Big Bad (doing only bad routes) as Shadow and go to a level with Amy, then playing a Big Good (doing only good routes), then the ending will be called Miracle Of Love!
so, she might be barely doing anything, but she at least can convince Shadow to do good again SA2 style

She single handedly defeats eggman in the Advance games yet gets lower rated, while having a minor role in sa2 and gets top rated..

Amy is Elite in Frontiers. The entire finale after the DLC couldn't have happened without her leadership, she basically orchestrated the entire thing.
