People who say this film is anti-man, clearly didn't watch this scene. Not only did the lawyer show deep remorse for what he did but he's one of the only characters to get to redeem himself at the end.

He’s only in it for 3 minutes but Alfred Molina absolutely kills it. This scene is so important to the overall film

I think it was a good choice story wise that out of the 3 people Cassie visits at first, the only person to remember Nina and actually feel remorse without being guilted into it is the person who is arguably the hardest to forgive. It completely catches her of guard.

She was so disarmed by the notion that Jordan actually felt remorse and was mentally torturing himself over his epiphany over what he'd been doing for so many years and the fact that he remembered her friend Nina. She was ready to torture him, to harm him and do anything to make him feel her pain. But when she saw there was nothing she could do that he hadn't done to himself she chose to forgive him. I think she felt more relieved at least one of Nina's wrong doers remembered her and felt genuine remorse for their contribution to her suicide.

I liked how Jordan was one of the only characters to feel any true remorse for failing Nina, and atones by helping Cassie to expose Al.

I love how he is apologizing yet the scene feels threatening because he is a large man and the audience knows how strong a man really is. Even the casting is great because this actor always tends to portray violent men. This is a genius moment.

People don’t understand that this is seriously the most important scene in the movie.

The dying plants are representative of how Jordan's guilt has been slowly killing him. Brilliant.

"I remember her"
One of the most powerful yet simple lines in cinematic history.

"Do you want me to hurt you?"
"I think so."
This exchange is so perfect. The tones of voice, the honesty, his off kilter intensity. Also when he answers the door and is like, "I knew this was coming." It's totally disarming and unexpected, and it makes sense that Cassie changed her mind about him.

The one who remembered and said Nina's name was forgiven. That's all Cassie wanted. From Al, from everyone. For them to recognize their sin and remember her

You really appreciate that moment when Cassie tells the guy to forget about going after Jordan because it shows that when she realizes how genuine someone truly is, she definitely won’t hold things against them anymore.

It's subtle, but you can actually see Cassie's stupor start to break at 0:24, she wasn't expecting this guy to actually feel remorse about what he did and it shocked her. Great acting by Carey Mulligan.

What a genius moment to dress Cassie in blue, and backlight her with the blonde hair framing her head. With the lawyer's head in her hand begging forgiveness it has the feeling of benediction considering all the 'costumes' Cassie wears with her interactions with men, this has the biggest reference for an 'avenging angel' giving both retribution, but also having the capacity to provide grace.

The two dead plants in the background...nice touch there

I love how her face changes from contempt to utter pity. She realized that this man, while he helped cover up despicable acts, has been wracked with guilt for years. I think all she ever wanted to hear was “I’m sorry”, and when she finally does, she forgives him, tells him he can sleep, and leaves.

I absolutely love this scene. It shows Cassie is willing to forgive when she encounters genuine remorse. All she truly wants is accountability.

Owning up to your wrongdoing and genuinely showing remorse is a powerful thing.

Only two men remembered Nina- the one who attacked her and the one who helped her go away. Haunting.
