The fact that she said that the college gets at least 1-2 reports of those a week without any empathy or remorse, says a lot about her and the college.

This is why the “if it was my sister/daughter” thing is bullshit. They shouldn’t have to be “yours” to respect them.

I love how the dean's concern switched from "oh just another drunk girl" to "oh god my daughter I have to save her" perfect karma right there

It’s crazy how she went from “she’s just a drunk girl” & “We have to give them the benefit of the doubt” to “She’s a young girl” once her daughter was added to the equation. It’s a shame that a lot of men and women don’t care about these things until it’s about their daughter, sister, mom, gf, etc.

A lot of people talk about how Emerald casted comedic men in this movie as predators. But she equally cast comedic lovable women as women who embody the systemic problems

The daughter of my colleague was assaulted at her college. When she reported it, the boy was immediately expelled and security was instructed to call the police if he set foot on campus again. I wish all universities responded that way.

The intelligence, anger, guilt and exhaustion that Carey Mulligan is able to convey, sometimes all at the same time, is simply incredible. What a performance. One of our greatest actresses.

It's so delish how Cassie controls the entire conversation despite Dean Walker getting more and more panicked. The icing is her *secretary* hearing her unravel and scream through the walls, and slowly smiling. We don't realize that secretaries are often always the relayers of information, yet they're expected to remain neutral about it, even if the topic is horrifying or even illegal. She was WAITING for someone to juice out all the toxic things Dean Walker covered up.

the fact she’s never explicitly physically violent but you still feel horrified when she switches up on people, you can never tell what she’s gonna do next

The way Carey delivers the line "No. She's not." with such a quiet rage and palpable despair is really masterful.

THIS 👏🏾SCENE👏🏾 WAS 👏🏾ABSOLUTELY👏🏾 NEEDED👏🏾. Look how quickly she switched when she thought her daughter was “vulnerable & made a bad choice”.

I love the receptionist face when she hears the dean yelling 4 her daughter

Psychological torture is honestly the best revenge. The dean and the so called friend that didn’t believe Nina got on my nerves.

"What would you have me do? Ruin a young man's life when we get an accusation like this?"

He ruined his OWN life. And hers. Do the crime, do the time. Simple.

Says a lot about the system. This movie wasn't a revenge story even though a lot of people describe it that way. From my perspective, this movie was making a larger societal statement about abuse of power and the corruption to cover up the abuse. This is a powerful story that reflects how our society continues to fail to protect and support survivors and victims.

"Oh, wait. I have her phone." The best respond to turn that dean expression 180°. Ha!

Victim blaming and shaming seem acceptable….

…until the victim becomes someone you love.

That’s my takeaway from this powerful scene.

I love the symbolism in the names and framing of the scenes. Cassie is often portrayed with wings, like an avenging angel. But, her name also refers to Cassandra of Troy, whose prophesies no one believed until it was too late.

Nina also means 'little girl', emphasising her friend's young age and being just another insignificant girl in the system.

Should have won the Oscar off this scene alone
