How To Fix Programs Opening In Notepad

When you go to open a program and without warning they open in notepad, and all you see is lines of gibberish, it can be frustrating right?

Follow these simple steps to fix this error and be back up and running in minutes.

Note: This method does not require internet or command prompt, so dont worry if yours arent working.

Step 1: Open Notepad by pressing Windows Logo + R Key, type "notepad" and press enter.

Step 2: Copy this code and paste it into your notepad, it will be in the comments.

Step 4: Save in your desired location and close the notepad

A message will appear after saying the registry was successfully updated.

Thats it, now you should be able to open programs as before this whole problem started.

The "unicode" choice isn't showing up for me. It only has options for UTF 8, UTF 16 etc

How to fix .rar files from opening in notepad instead of winrar: 1) Open control panel

2) Hit programs
3) Click default programs) 4) click set your default programs 5)scroll down to choose default apps by file type 6) scroll down in the r section until you find .rar 7) if it shows in a notepad click on it and change it to WINRAR. Hopes I fixed that problem
