Pilot's Wife Lands Plane After Husband Suffers Heart Attack

The wife of a pilot had to land a private plane after her husband suffered a heart attack. Air traffic control got on the radio with his wife and directed her to Meadows Field in Bakersfield, California. They had to give her step by step instructions on how to land the plane. Incredibly, Yvonne Kinane-Wells landed the plane safely and was unhurt. The pilot's niece says, "Yvonne, you are a hero for being able to land that plane safely and walk away safely under so much stress."

When my dad got his private pilot’s license, my mom went and took classes too so that she could do exactly what this lady did. She wanted to be prepared to help him in the air if needed. Thankfully she never had to.

My great uncle is a former pilot for the now defunct Continental Airlines. He has arthritis and can’t type anymore so I’m commenting for him. He says:”She was understandably frightened but she remained calm and had wonderful assistance in the form of the air traffic controller. That is why she successfully landed that aircraft.”
