car wont start check this first for melting or loose and follow black wire to ALT. do what i did and put electrical tape on the side so it don't short out on the other nut/section and replace asap follow ebay link

Mine had the following symptoms, it was working fine, but one day I went to turn it on and it didn't do anything, it didn't start, nor did it turn on the dashboard lights, we tried with another battery and nothing, by chance I touched the Cruise control button, and then it came back to start, incredible, but try to see if it works for you too,

I suggest doing a capacitive discharge of the car battery before changing out parts. Disconnect both battery terminals, starting with the ground - (negative), connect both connection leads with a jumper wire for at 1 minute. Reconnect both battery terminals, hopefully that helps.
That worked with my car!

That black wire on the battery is not a ground! It’s the alternator

maybe all vw got similar passat broke my heart aswell when the bloody thing wont start at all i mean i tried starting it but it gave me one dying crank sound and after that i try to start it again but the engine wont respond, ,,its very stressfull

I have a 2000 Jetta and it was fine then didn’t start back up at gas station. No crank, no start, some accessories work, some don’t. Still trying to figure out the issue. Def not the battery. Wouldn’t start with jump or brand new battery. I checked the wires on top of battery with test light and the fuses. Seem okay. Now my other car just broke down, I believe timing belt. So def need to get the Jetta fixed but dunno where to start. I’m not mechanic
