Thanks for recording the audio along with the diagnosis. That helped me ID my problem. Mine sounds like a compressor issue and a technician is required. 😫

For nearly a week, every hour or so our refrigerator would make a loud electrical/buzzing/crunching noise like something was trying to turn on but it couldn't, and I was worried that it was on its last leg (it's only 4 years old). Turns out that the ON/OFF switch on our ice maker, which isn't hooked up to water, had accidentally been flipped to the ON position by food we had piled up in the freezer. Very happy with this "fix" that I found on another YouTube video... as easy and inexpensive as it gets!!! :)

Thank you for including the sounds. There's only so many ways you can describe a 'buzzing' sound

I very lightly slapped the fan in my freezer and it fixed my problem, it was so loud it almost sounded like a motorcycle or something. Thanks for showing me there is a fan in the freezer

Ok you were stright to the point with sound examples. Man other youtubers need to take notes! I may need a motor for my fan by the sound of it and if that's the case I'm using your site just because of how little time it took me with your video. Nice work!

OR! You may only need to defrost your refrigerator. That's right
folks. The clicking sound in my refrigerator is not the fan going bad
but ice hitting the lower blower motor. This appears to be common on
some models of Samsung as well as Kenmore. Yes, you still have to
empty your refrige and unplug it for about 24 hrs. Put towels in the
bottom to catch the melting ice. If it works when you plug it back in
you have just saved yourself a lot of money and time. I plan to make this a
regular maintenance process i will do annually - ridiculous, yes, but
according to a blog post I read replacing the fan and/or circuit board
doesn't change the fundamental design of these units that leads to the
icing up. Good luck

Sad fact is repair costs are far more than the value of a new fridge.

What solved my noise problem in this area wasn't any of these. The Condenser fan motor spinning caused the thin plastic drip pan to vibrate against metal at multiple places. Very poor design by Whirlpool. I placed Foam Insulation Weather Stripping Adhesive (3/4 Inch Wide X 1/8 Inch Thick) everywhere where the plastic drip pan touched metal. The plastic drip pan on my Whirlpool/Jenn Air model is located under the Condenser fan motor and runs along behind the Compressor. It was vibrating at its worst behind and to the right of the Compressor.

Our 3-4 year old GE side-by-side fridge has recently begun to make a fairly loud, one-to-two second whistle just as the compressor kicks on. Anything to worry about? Thx.

so I have an AEG SCT71900S0 that got hot yesterday - power cut followed by little daughter who didnt shut it properly after looking for ice. Today there was a nasy grrrgggh noise. Was about to throw it away and order new one - looked at your video .. "Fan? What fan?" and what do you know in the top freezer ice box there is a fan which was rubbing against plastic packaging - problem solved and no immediate need to buy a new fridge freezer. THANKS a lot for posting this video. Really appreciate it.

*So you recommend replacing a compressor instead of simply recharging the coolant?*
