FIXED! Refrigerator buzzing vibration extra loud.

LG refrigerator sometimes was extra loud and buzzing/rattling. It was simply a vibrating retainer clip on one of the compressor mount posts. I lifted top tab up onto the post so it is held tight.

That noise happened several times a day, very annoying. It was about as loud as it sounds on video, even when pushed back into the cabinet space.

Thank you for helping us pin point and fix our fridge! This has been the most obnoxious sound to live with for the past few months!

Facing same noise Issue with Toshiba refrigerator and even their technicians are not easily find the proper solution of it, thanks for this videos, it helps me (as a common man) a lot. Now, I will inform them to use a rubber visor to fix the issue. :)

Our LG frig was doing the exact same thing. It looks like the rubber grommets/mounts get compressed over time and creates space between the top clips and the rubber mounts which causes the noise.

MY FIX:
The clips are very easy to remove (flip the top part up so it's free of the vertical post, then spin the clip until the open side is facing you and push the clip away from you off of the post).
With the clips removed, you'll need something to use as a washer/spacer to fill the gap between the grommet and the clip. I used some old plastic garden edging that I cut into squares and punched a hole in the middle. I'm sure you can find something rubber/plastic around the house or check a hardware store. A metal washer might work, but could also just end up causing more noise.
Slide your homemade washer(s) over the post, use a few if needed, and reattach the clips.
Simple and effective! Frig is SILENT once again.

Nailed it man! Thanks. I removed and squeezed the clips tighter with pliers then dumped hot glue on them. Quiet now for a week...after months of annoying buzzing sounds. AAAHHHH!

I had exactly the same problem on my LG fridge. Your post helped me source and fix it (I crafted a plastic u shaped stopper out of a curtain hook and fit it between the gap - buzzing has completely

Thanks for the tip. I found a very good solution for this fix. Since I can't insert a thick washer between the clip and the rubber mount to increase the pressure on the rubber foot. I use a medium cable tie to act as the washer. While pushing down the metal frame to have enough space to inset the rip tie; then pulling to tighten the cable tie. Now the tie as a washer pressing down the rubber footing. Noise is gone. Hope this helps.

Gary Gary Gary I almost bought a bunch of just in case parts but after watching your video sure enough it was the same part as you described making all that noise. Had bought some different sized Rubber o rings from the dollar store years ago and finally put them to use. I owe u a case of the finest beer 😅thanks a bunch

I have a 4 year old Whirlpool 4 door French door style model. The noise started two weeks ago and was unbearable, could not even hear the TV when the compressor kicked on, i did clean the front coils and nothing happened. Finally i decided to open up the back like i saw on your video and the noise was being made by the rubber being worn down a bit.I did a better and permanent fix....I got two new dish washing sponge that i had on hand, and shoved it under the compressor, it's tight like a frogs asshole now and quieter than it was when new. Thanks a lot for the video.

My kenmore (made by LG) was doing the same thing. Two of their stupid techs couldn't even diagnose this. Thanks! It was exactly my problem. I pushed the retainer clip so that the front of the clip was sitting on top of the post; half way on essentially. That created enough tension to stop the noise.

Thanks Gary S, it worked like a charm.I just put a piece of cardboard paper below clip and the noise vanished.

You'll notice that the compressor continues to emit a buzzing/humming noise even after the loud vibration in this video is fixed.  For other LG fridge owners with sensitive ears, this can drive you insane - especially when your kitchen and living room are one large room (or, in our case - one large echo chamber with tile floors).  There is no way to "fix" the "normal" humming/buzzing sound, but I was able to successfully block it by buying a $19 pack of 1"x12"x12" foam acoustic panels online and strategically placing them in the open space beneath the fridge and select areas (primarily the lower half) of the small gap between the fridge and the wall.  Just make sure if you do this you don't completely fill in all open gaps around your fridge since the unit does need some air flow, but you should be able to find a happy medium that blocks the noise sufficiently, but allows the unit to vent.  I hope this helps someone else find peace from the unfortunate buzzing noise that the compressor emits, even when working properly.

Thank you! Been waiting for service to arrive, think they are playing games with me, so I will dig in myself if they don’t show up.

Thank you for posting this ... We're going to tear the back of ours apart & see if THIS is also our issue. It's driving us nuts !! and only 15 months old.

Same issue here. Mine was really loud and an easy fix with the eraser from a pencil pushed into the clip. Did it to all of them and still working 6 months later.

thanks for your video. i checked the mounts on the compressor, and they were tight. my buzzing wound up coming from the metal fan housing. I used a rubber mallet to gently tap it, and the buzzing completely stopped. the vibration over the years must have shifted it a bit over time.

I just fixed our LG LFX25974ST this weekend, it was vibration from the fan/motor. I used lexel sealant around the black enclosure & frame, with a big gob at the fan housing, then when I put the back cover on, I ran a screw through the cover & into the fan housing. This might not fix yours, but it did ours after hearing this thing for 7 years!
I also cleaned the fan off & vacuumed everything I could.

Wow, thank you for your post! I've had the back off the LG 3 times trying to figure out what's buzzing. It's intermittent so I've had trouble tracking it down. I've put braces against the compressor and shoved shims under and around the rubber mounts. It stops buzzing for a little while but then starts up again after a couple of days. After watching your post, I think I'm going to focus on the clips, maybe try wrapping them with electrical tape and reinstalling them.
