Dude, you just saved me a 2 hour round trip to and from my nearest Mac certified repair place plus what ever they could have possibly charged me for. Rad! Thanks!

if you dont get anything from the recovery mode, is it a hard drive problem or a main board problem? and why would it be a hard drive problem anyway?

THANKS!!!! 1st I tried the recommended cmd + D and it rebooted with a Not or don’t symbol. Then I rebooted and tried the cmd +R and did the Disk Utility and reinstalled the IOS

hi bro, your video is really helpful. thank you for it. since you said we could ask for help, please can you advise me on my query.. i have a 2009 iMac. a few days back, one of it's RAM of 2GB failed, and so now it's on 2 GB RAM (1066 MHz). i usually leave the iMac on. The day before in the morning when i woke up, i saw the wheel spinning and it just does not stop.
i tried all the first aids and nothing worked. however when i press the option key, it shows the drives and recovery disk. but when i try anything else other than booting the system normally, it shows the progress bar which gets stuck at 40%.
I have tried connecting a usb bootable thumb drive, os x loaded external hard drive, and everything actually. tried safe boot mode and all those things. but it still gets stuck on the progress bar.
please note that i'm using a wireless bluetooth apple keyboard.. it works perfectly fine. the only one thing is that it does not open disk utility when i press command and r on start up. whereas when i press option while booting, it does does show the drives available..
i did try resetting the pram and resetting the smc.
now i'm exhausted.. phew..
if you have a solution, please let me know . thank you bro :)

I have a macbook pro retina display. I was turning a windows file to a mac file and then my mac shut down and went into windows format. I followed your steps and it is rebooting now, thanks so much
