SPOILERS in description below:

0:00 "I'm an excellent driver"

==========
1:52 "Autistic Savant"
"the ritual" is a good pun. And " the concept of money thing" is ironic, especially if you know how far Charlie has gone to track down the beneficiary of that 3 million worth of trust fund:

=========
3:54 "This is an unannounced visit"

"Who's on First" & "I don't know"... Raymond is anxious. Charlie is a jerk~

Trivia: it's said that the "my main man" thing is not on script, what a improvising performance~ (5:20).
==========

5:33 "I don't think people are his first priority"
The "prescription medication" thing is surly an odd way to show affection.

I find 0:37 very interesting when Raymond says "'Course the seats were originally brown leather. Now they're a pitiful red."     That is the only time in the movie I can think of that Raymond seems to express an opinion of his own. Everything else that he says seems to come from his memory,  echolalia (repetition of speech) his routine, anxiousness,  something that was said or done in the past but not a concrete personal opinion.

Valeria Golino’s amazing. Susanna’s bond with Ray helps make the movie. She shows the sensitivity and understanding Charlie takes a lot of time to.

I LOVE Dustin Hoffman in this movie! He nailed it!

Dustin Hoffman was so good in this role that when he won the Oscar, his acceptance speech sounds like he’s still in character.

Tom cruise is one of the greatest! Dustin has no need of introduction whatsoever he’s one of the greatest as well for sure, I still remember when this movie came in it was like the biggest thing from the 80’s 2 great actors teamed up since Tom Cruise was “The actor “ of that time and space and Dustin Hoffman was already a full household name ! I get goosebumps and tears every time I watch this ultimate classic now that’s one of the greatest movies ever in history

Their dad let Raymond drive the car, but not Charlie. It’s sad that no one told Charlie about his brother and that their dad resented Charlie because Raymond was sent away. The whole situation is sad and Charlie didn’t deserve the father’s resentment. The letter left in the will where the father was resentful over Charlie not writing to him, like, why would he? It was cruel to leave all the money to someone who didn’t understand the concept, but at least it brought them together.

Love the movie and can relate to it. I am high functioning and have a photographic memory. I am capable of living on my own but prefer to live with my parent. Only difference is my patterns. They differ if I have college, work or not. Love the performance of the character Rainman but wish.. people would stop making fun of fellow autistics and comparing us to each other.

I'm autistic too, not exactly the same as Raymond, but I too have had trouble holding jobs, feeling comfortable around other people. I have had keen interests in things such as old films and music, history, earlier times and eras, and concepts such as time travel, life after death, God, alternate dimensions, and such. I like the idea of having more money but am not comfortable getting jobs or leaving my place, going out places. It is the autism, alot of it. I have agoraphobia too though.

Just realise a reason for why Charlie never got a chance to drive. Maybe it was to keep the car looking the same. Because Raymond needs structer.

I watched this film way before it was released. I worked for the largest film distribution company in the UK and our office building had a little cinema in it for the staff. Each week we would see a new film sometimes a year before it was released so no ads no marketing and obviously no trailers. All we knew about the film was the poster. Because of this i enjoyed the films way more. No spoilers no expectations. Ever since then i make a point not to watch trailers.

You know I've been laughing and loved this part and the whole movie since I was a kid. But, when for the first time I saw the Geraldo Rivera documentary on Willowbrook earlier this year, I put instantly put 2 and 2 together as to why they used the name Wallbrook in this movie. Wow, if only those ppl in Willowbrook would have been treated like this instead. Really made me never see this movie in such a comedic way any more. I had to discontinue watching that documentary after 10 minutes, and couldn't imagine how Geraldo was able to complete that video back then.

i thinki the movie industry can sometimes have a po faced attitude to disability so it was refreshing when hollywood decided to make a comedy about autism- and choosing hoffman as the lead reminded us that, for all of his talents as a serious actor, he can excel in a comedy role
