Best Picture 1989 Oscar winner. A young Tom Cruise, and Dustin Hoffman give signature performances in this hugely enjoyable classic.

Charlie Babbitt (Cruise) introduces his autistic brother Raymond (Hoffman or Rain Man of the title) to Blackjack...

Raymond has a penchant for counting cards and the couple quickly win $86,000 in one sitting. Watching over them, the Casino Surveillance team can't quite work out how they did it - commenting at one point that it was impossible to count a 6 deck shoe - go figure!!

Either way, the film cleaned up at the Oscars - including best screenplay.

Casino staff: No one can count into a six-deck shoe.

Raymond: Hold my orange soda.

"You're doing well. I'm happy for you." Yeah, he's obviously thrilled for them.

The moment where Raymond begins feeling overwhelmed by the crowd is heartbreaking

I always loved the fact that Charlie allowed Ray to play, he would only give one chip each time ...just like two Kids and the Big bro is letting him having fun.

I saw this with my father. Walking out of the theatre I said, “They should just give Dustin Hoffman the Oscar right now. Nobody is going to beat that performance.”

The " six deck shoe" comment is absolutely immense. Then they cross to Raymond' full of concentration. Awesome movie. Well deserved of the awards and the accolades. Just a classic.

I swear all I’m writing is true. When I first watched this movie, I was ten years old and got fascinated by Raymond’s talent, always wishing to meet a guy like him. Fast forward 30 years and I had a daughter with a very similar visual talent. She is not an autistic savant or anything but she can tell you the exact location of all the countries in the world and recognize all flags of the world at the age of seven. I have my own mini version of Raymond ❤

The hilarious part is that this isn’t technically cheating. Blackjack is literally a game of chance and math.

When he said "you make me sad Ray" after winning him £85, 000 was unforgivable. I would have just said don't worry about it bro you've helped me out big time already and put my arms around him. 😢

“You’re doing very well, I’m happy for you.” That delivery is so perfect like I hate you and bosses are going to kill me but I’m happy for you.

Really feel for Ray in these scenes. You can tell he's getting overwhelmed and overstimulated and trying to keep it together.

It’s an amazing performance because he does everything with his facial expressions and it’s totally believable

Rewatched it a few days ago, A very touchwarming masterpiece of film, based on the true story of Kim Peek, the actual Rain Man. An excellent Cast with Hoffman nailing the role despite the difficulty being expected, Hoffman's influence and his depiction were perfectly done, and deservingly of it awards, I don't think anyone else could be cast other than him, with Tom Cruise, and Golino, just as great to the performance, an excellent soundtrack, storyline, dialog and effects. Overall the film was perfection in capturing our hearts, and respect for the Rain Man. Obviously, a bit pushed the story is in comparison to the true story, but that's Hollywood. Not a single dull moment, whether be the Poker Scene to the simple scenes of them at home, Covering comedy, action, hearts, anger, sadness and just loads of emotions, by the end of it, your left with so much sympathy, admiration and respect. A film that does not deserve to be spoiled, but a must-watch. 1.16.23

Sadly, they didn't realize they were playing at a 25¢ table, and only made $19.25.

The dealers name really is Nick. He was a senior blackjack dealer at Caesars Palace. Always like to work graveyard so he could golf right after work with some of his pals-who were also dealers at Caesars. Back in the 90s, I would always play at his table on 3rd shift{only time i would play). I remember one time I walked up to his table and he told me to leave cause he was so hot! So i watched a few hands and HE WAS on fire Really nice guy to do that-even said it in front of pit boss. Told me alot of stories about dealing at Caesars. Most outrageous was when Bob Denver took over his table and started dealing and he payed everyone at the table even if they busted!

I like how the camera zooms in on the dealer as if he was the final boss.

Also if this was real life, Raymond and Charlie would’ve been blacklisted from the casino
