Unpopular Opinion: No one has issues immediately after cleaning an engine bay. It's days to weeks later when the damage may become noticeable and often isn't even associated with the cleaning that took place some time ago. Many experienced mechanics cringe at the thought of washing an engine bay because they KNOW what the outcome can be. Be extra careful.
With that said, these tips and techniques are probably the best for minimizing issues.
Great work as always Pan.

Fantastic step by step guide on how to detail the engine bay of your car! I still remember the first time I detailed the engine bays of both my cars. It was a little intimidating at first, but by following your amazing instructions it was a breeze and so much fun🥳. Absolutely loved the first person view👌🏻. Stellar work Pan!

Absolutely fantastic. I’m going to clean my 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander that I gave my wife to drive. (I bought a Toyota HiLux and she wanted to keep my outlander because she loves it) I purchased it brand new and it has done over 300, 000 kilometres and the engine bay is very dirty. I’ll post a pic of it before and after.
Thanks Pan.

Thanks Pan! It was great to meet you at SEMA. I always look forward to drinking coffee and watching your videos on a Saturday morning.

I have over 20 years of auto repair experience. And agree that most things built after 2005 should handle these steps pretty well. Never use a garden hose, avoid high pressure contact from both washer and compressed air. You don’t want to force water past the weather pack seals. And of course, use common sense and look the engine over first. I would also watch out for labels fixed to plastic parts. They come off easily with water and dirt if not being careful. Same with powerful degreasers on painted engine covers.

One of my favorite things is to do my engine bays. I pretty much do what you do except I haven't used the Koch Chemie active foam. That will be on my next buy list. Thanks again, great stuff.

That alkaline stuff is caustic and a good electrical conductor. So probably more precautions would be needed for older cars. Also the brake fluid is hydroscopic and its reservoir cap usually have a little hole that one might not want to wash with pressure.

I use Optimum Power Clean and steam to clean engine bays, along with microfibers and assorted brushes. I've used my old wheel woolies to clean some of the "less accessible" areas of engine bays. I blow them dry afterward. Another thing to consider is to block the air intakes to keep excess water from entering. For cold air induction systems, I wrap a gallon size ziploc bag around the air filter.

TY Pan loved this engine detail video, I do pretty much as you did to detail my engine with similar products available here in Australia except on the hood/bonnet, there i find it much easier to use damp/wet micro fibre towels after spraying the metal areas to wipe off any dust and then vacuum the material sound proofing. I do it that way as i don't like to get a lot of water on that area. Loved this mate as so many as you said tell you DON'T DO IT!! you will cause issues, well I have never had an issue detail the engine bay and my mechanic loves me for it makes it a joy for him to work on and shows i care.

I love Hyper dressing. Being able to control the gloss level is amazing but Motorplast is hard to beat. I coated everything with Vonixx V-Energy engine bay ceramic coating and maintain it with Motorplast. It 95 percent self levels, isn't too glossy, lasts a long time and actually protects more than just the plastic. Phenomenal product IMO

Nice video as always Pan. I got a suggestion for a future video. We all want the perfect paint for our car but one thing we cant escape is winter and snow removal. Id like to see a test of various snow brushes and finally be able to pick one thats easy on the paint.
