Active listening is a very powerful communication method. It makes you fully understand other person and brings people closer to each other. It needs time and patience but its benefits are priceless.

What sucks about being an active listener is that most people don't understand that they are supposed to return the favor. Being a naturally active listener makes talkers gravitate toward me and I rarely get to talk myself so I occasionally slip into bad habits out of frustration and desperation. How do we find the balance and make other people shut up so we can say something? At what point is assertiveness allowed??

The best way to be a active listener is by 1. Stay focused, keep eye contact, don't judge, and be patient. 2. Really listen, don't think about your similar experience and what you should tell next. 3. Allow for period of silence, wait till the other person speaks again 4. From time to time repeat the other person words or phrases, it will assure that your listening. 5. Understand the emotions behind the words, when you paraphrase also try expressing the other feelings back to them

It is very important to be a good listener. Always stay focused and really listen to what they are saying. Have patience no matter how long the conversation lasts. Look interested in what they are saying. Just be how you would want the other person to be if you were the one talking.

I am an active listener . I don't think anyone can learn to be a good active listener . The 2 most important attitude in being a good listener is being non judgmental and being curious about people . I don't think you can learn these 2 attitudes . Either you have it or you don't .
