Guitar Feedback: How to Do It / How to Use It

Wanna feel like an 80s rockstar? Add some feedback.
What is feedback? A "feedback loop" comes from the sympathetic vibrations of a note running from your electric guitar, to your amp, and vibrating your strings with sound waves.

It's a cool trick that was popularized by rock players in the 60s and 70s, and I'm going to show you how to use it to spice up your playing! Of course, you're going to need your volume and gain HIGH on your amp to get that cool sound.

You can also use your pedals to produce the same effect. Once you work with it a bit, you'll notice you can achieve natural harmonics. It's simple physics and it's pretty cool

In this video, I'm using an Ebow, or "energy bow" to help magnify the feedback. You can find this tool in my kit store.

Before the days of pedals, and master volumes. I always got feedback (that I could control), simply by holding the head of the neck onto the speaker baffle! This would give me workable feedback a a really low volume! Vibrations of the guitar strings, vs. the speaker baffle! Some of the best results, were my Epiphone Casino, through a Fender Super Amp! I'm old enough that my teachers were Jeff Beck, and Pete Townshend!

Feedback always brings me back to when i first watched John lennon on the rock revival of toronto where both him and clapton leave their guitars against the amp and leave the stage like badasses.

Nice job. I have a JCM 900 and the JCM 800 1960B cab and turned up it is a feedback machine. Every touch.

You can get some awesome effects through a similar method if you point a video recorder at its own output.

Trey Anastasio is a master with his hollow body guitar. Not the same, but the Grateful Dead made glorious feedback

I can get feedback to work but it takes a really long time. The note I’m playing has to be dead and then the feedback starts.

So, you can't get feedback with a wireless setup?
