For me It's all a matter of utility. Virtual bass is used to make tracks that involve automatizations and an only performer doing so, real bass is more used when you need a more specific control over the tones, attack, decay and even groove 👍

Add a sustain pedal to the VST and it might sound a bit more realistic. Pretty sure you can also add the pick tones to the VST. Otherwise, real bass is a clear winner

Much like MIDI drums, it all comes down to feel and touch. If you can play the keyboard with similar inflections to a bass or drums - you’ll get good results!

Honestly they sound different but not different enough that the average listener would notice. When it comes to it the only real space most musicians earn money now a days is through live shows so if you’re a base player you’re profession is still intact.
