Top 5 worst unique units in Age of Empires 2 HD

A continuation from last time. I talked about the 5 best units so it's only fair that I now talk about the 5 worst units. Remember that this is only my opinion. Feel free to disagree with me as you see fit. Remember that by worst, I am referring to unique units where if they vanished, the civilization's strategy would see minimal change. This is why UUs like the Huskarl or Longbowman are so good. If the civilization didn't have those units, they would have to rely on a completely different strategy. This video explores units that their civilization can completely do without or are completely situational and not self sufficient, thus relying heavily on external support

Axmen after being buffed are actually great for Franks. They should not be in the list. BTW karambits are great against siege and monk rush.

The axe throwers are for killing pikemen before they reach your buffed cav

Throwing axeman is really perfect unique unit.. i would say it become slightly less value due to malians ghebeto ..see though hand cannor takes care of halberdier..throwing axeman is unqiue..it has range mele..it can shread seige nd receive no bonus against skirmisher..its defntly nt a bad unit..
Also tarkan has 4 pierce armor ..so now they are not so bad as before though..
Bt yeah good notes, couldnt agree on throwing axeman though..
I feel like the most useless uu is elephant archer..if im not fighting against turks who dont have skirmisher or pikes or onager..so elephant arch can do well..other than against turks elphant archer is useless..it must be at top 1😄

Depends on where you're using them Tarkans and Karambit Warriors can be extremely deadly. For example in the game mode where you lose if your original Town Center is destroyed. A raid of 40 Elite Karambits is compact and extremely deadly, It can kill a TC in 7 seconds provided they're fully upgraded.

Great list, background music too loud

Tarkans are like mounted huskarls. Great pierce armor. Great for raiding.

Dissagree Edith The throwing axeman, they give me headache

Youre not using the karambit strategically enough if you think it sucks. Literally spam it at their castles and then send in heavy shit to mop up

Karambits eat buildings very easily with arson and pair it with cheap malay elephants and supporting with siege units will destroy enemy easily. Also easy to mass them up and overwhelm the enemy with numbers... as long as economy is fine tho

Agree on tarkan. As a dm player you rarely see them massed. As hun you don't need castles to raise pop so they are even more overlooked. They made them available in stables afterwards to push popularity, but didn't work. For throwing axeman i disagree. They are extremely good against trash, champions and with huge numbers they can handle cavalry as well. Rams are useless when axemen are near. In old aok dm rules there was no siege allowed and even an 40 axe maximum. This had a reason! The combination axeman and paladin can be very strong

O no, the axemen are fine. Ranged melee units, what's not to like? And tarkans are excellent for taking down buildings at speed, instead of having to wait half an hour for the rams to reach the enemy camp. Agree with the karambit though, and would throw in the gbeto for the same reason of being too fragile to be useful.

I disagree about the missionaries and tarkans.
Missionaries are very useful in a battle with a lot of units. Order them to convert enemy units and then bring them back behind your conquistadors or paladins. You'll make a serious damage on enemy army.
Tarkans can't be compared to paladins because you can train tarkans once you are in castle age and owns a castle. Paladins, by the other hand, need a stable, cavalier upgrade, paladin upgrade and they cost more than tarkans. Tarkans are units used to destroy town centers and castles when in large numbers and to fight weak enemy units. Paladins are used to fight every unit you may wish, you just need some archer support when dealing against halberdiers or camels. So, comparing paladins and tarkans makes no sense. Both are good units and are used in different situations.

I know right! The throwing axeman sucks so much! Why do the Franks a cavalry civilization have a ranged infantry unit as their unique unit. It makes no sense because their civ bonuses don't synergize with their unique unit. In most unique units work with their civ bonuses. The Longbowman benefit from the Britons range bonuses. The Huskarl benefits from the infantry bonuses of the Goths. The Franks should have been given a special cavalry/knight unit (Norman Knights. Plus it makes no sense from a historical accuracy point of view. The throwing axeman makes since if the game was suppose to take place in the around the fall of Rome but not the 1100-1500 period.

Again great work. I agree with almost you exposed, just one exception: throwing axeman. In a frankish army where all archer units are awful but for the hand cannoeer, the axeman can do the similar job, with higher armor, double hp, 100% accuracy, almost twice atacking speed and half gold cost and half creation time. Unless your dealing with high melee armor, they are effective against more types of units than the hand. c, so they are probably the best ranged unit for the franks (apart from siege). I don't know what unit to put instead the axeman, perhaps the shotel warrior. But remember, the rest of your list is very unerring from my PoV.

You need to lower down the background music when you edit these, it's too loud for your voice.

Whoa, huge mistake there with the throwing axemen and the tartars. Sorry, but you must've overlooked their potential.
I assume youre not an expert player like SOTL, Hera, etc., but still, my man, WTF? Anyways, still fun to watch.

Tarkans are good if you rush at castle age. In Imperial age it's useless, so you are right. Still y believe it's a better unit than the throwing axe man.

why everyone hate tarkans? They are actualy prety awesome. just look on them and u see they are atacking with a torch, which could tell you that they are not ment to be fighting units. Combo of like 50 huns paladins, sent first, killing all units in sight folowed with like 50 tarkans, taking down castles, TCs and all production buildings, is epic. u dont even need a siege as tarkans fullfils that role prety nice and most important they dont stay to far behind paladins and if so, they can handle themselve from few units paladins may have missed. So, thumb down for a tarkan being a worst unit.

I can't watch this video. The music is too loud and it makes it hard to hear you. Try and fix the mix in editing on your next video. Not trying to be a troll just some thoughts and advise.
