Review of the Uniden BCD436 Scanner

I've owned many Uniden scanners over the years, but how do I feel about the Uniden BCD436HP? I give my overall thoughts and impressions on this popular digital handheld scanner.

hey Matt just to let you know I love that antenna because I've got one that came with my 436 scanner I just got one recently off of eBay and what a deal I got was it so now I'm really pleased at how it receives very well with a digital threshold setting of seven and it works flawlessly for our county's system it beats the stupid SDS series radios my next purchase is going to be a 536

I really hope one day Uniden or another scanner manufacturer comes out with a truly rugged scanner built like a motorola or another rugged two way radio, I would definitely pick it up

this is the most feature packed scanner I've owned. I entered my zip code and got a lot of stuff. now to figure out the rest of the features. I need someone to help me if I can't figure it out. I'm going to look locally for someone to help. I really like it so far.

I bought this scanner about a year ago and last week I was trying to carry too many things, and the scanner took the brunt of that decision….from about 5 feet in the air, onto concrete with nothing breaking the fall….and I can testify that it not only held together….

the only thing that happened was some scuffs on the bottom right corner…so not all that feels cheaply made is such I guess

Hey quick question, can you tell me why your display color is white, if you notice on some of the other videos, the display color is blue! Thanks

Don't really care that the face has a curve to it. I'll be looking at the scanner face on and not on a 60 degree angle not sure why this would bother some people?

Do you have to replace the factory antenna to pick up 800MHz?

I have had mine for a while and love it except for the battery system. Most NiMH battery chargers will only charge either 2 or 4 battery's and that one takes 3 battery's so charging 1 set while using the other is difficult. Also plugging it in and having it on it won't charge the radio has to be off to charge. I also agree about the screen mine has bad glare in the sun and when it is on my desk I can't read it with just a little angle down on it.

Hey I need some help I just bought one of these and I was wondering if I could listen to 2 different tac channels at once. Like Tac 1 And Tac 3.

It can take a drop, bear cats are pretty durable devices, belt clip ring is pretty bad though constantly unscrewing, not sure what the previous owner did. Currently is the cheapest solution in my state as it can handle p25 phase 2, dmr (with upgrade) and nxdx trunk systems (with the recent update and a upgrade)

I think it's a bit unfair comparing the uniden to a $1000+ Motorola radio.
Scanners are definitely consumer devices, while 2 way radios are commercial.
While I agree it does feel cheap, The direct competition's (whistler/GRE/RadioShack) radios feel far worse as far as build quality.

The volume control/multi function switch drives me up the effing wall. I guess it would not be so bad if you're sitting in a chair doing nothing else but if you are on the go, its a pain in the ass. There needs to be a dedicated volume control.
