NASA Hangout Focuses on Wildfires and Climate Change

Wildfires follow a simple but dangerous equation: Hotter, dryer conditions + more people in the world = a greater likelihood that there will be more ferocious wildfires threatening lives and property. During a Google+ Hangout on Friday, August 9, NASA scientists and other experts discussed changes expected in the coming decades in the trends of wildfires and climate change as temperatures rise, seasons gradually shift and precipitation patterns vary. Rising global temperatures could mean that even areas not accustomed to seeing wildfires could be at risk in the future.

Really interesting, NASA. Great work.

Gotta link to where you sourced 21 degree's from?

There are many active and dorment volcano's across the world, in my homeland NZ there are heaps - so why is yellow stone special - where would I find this information?

Plus de monde sur la Planète / plus de changements climatiques = plus de risques d'incendies. difficile de lister tous les autres phénomènes qui vont découler du réchauffement de la Terre.

NASA has a lot of departments, and they do a lot of research. NASA is pretty big. They do non-space things.

Is NASA really so big on weather? I thought this is more the job of NOAA - but I could be wrong, I live in Europe but worked a little in that area here.

I agree with you but sophisticate models still fail to simulate the climate of the past, and it seems desert are in a better shape because of the climate change (vegetation is up 10%), so be careful with assertions. Still I believe in the antropic climate change.

I had a question. I wanted to know how Geo engineering and the Haarp program are affecting the weather. I live in Los Angeles and I constantly see airplanes creating artificial clouds. I have had alot of breathing problems lately and it seems obvious to me that it is caused by these artificial clouds. I would like you to speak more on these programs.

As far as weather goes, NASA operates a bunch of weather satellites, etc., and as far as the studies go, they do mostly climate studies, I believe...weather warning and forecasting n' stuff is mostly the domain of NOAA. (Tho I'd imagine they'd retain SOME sort of in-house weather forecasting department to aid them in planning space launches and stuff.)

The fires are visible from space and involve the climate. That's what space and NASA have to do with the wildfires.

And of COURSE I know that they do non-space stuff, too. That's part of the point I was trying to make! Lol

Either way, tho...that science denier who got the first comment down there still needed to be told off. Now that that's done, tho, we should probably actually start talking about the video now. ^_^
