trying to THRIFT all my christmas decor for my new house

Moving into a new house has had me really reassessing all my past aesthetic choices, and this includes my past Christmas decorations. Holiday decor can lean really cheesy, really fast if not done right. In the past, my holiday decor has been pretty ‘Scandinavian’ in style and I liked that but I feel as though I have shifted my style to more of a mcm look; however in doing some research, I have found that I am not the biggest fan of the metallic “futuristic” look that came with the holidays in this style.

This might not be the right retro vibe you’re going for but I think dried up orange slices would look cute in your house

I'm 65. Been collecting all styles for many years. I have three tree that I swap out. One is a green traditional one is white and one is pink. One year I'll go whimsical one year glam and one year I'll go traditional. No need to use everything every year. It's fun changing it up every year

I saw one other person comment that they wish the tree was on a box or stand or something to give it height and I came here to say the same thing! It would look so good with some height to it

Becky, for a free skirt use a blanket that you have around that has the colour and feel that you fit the vibe of your room!

I know you don’t like the 60s retro Christmas trees but as a child we had a silver tree with red and green ornaments as well as a color wheel that projected different colors onto the tree and I loved it! My sisters and I would lay down on the carpet and just stare at the tree all night. A favorite Christmas memory of mine. Merry Christmas to you, Austin, and sweet Danny!

My jaw DROPPED when I saw the clip of Sanford & Son Vintage Market! I have a booth there! Thanks so much for visiting!! P.s the 400 market is only open on weekends but the antique mall attached to it is open all week! It’s located at the far right side of the building. Hope to see you back in this area again!
*Second comment because I think my first one was deleted because I mentioned my booth name

Our 60’s tree WAS a silver aluminum tree with the color wheel. We went from real tree to the silver and we were IN LOVE. We thought it so fancy.

The thing with decorating anything is, just do you. When we are not confined by the need to fit into certain styles, we will find more joy and freedom into channeling our creativity and happiness through our creations. Just do what feels happy and right to you. Enjoy the process not to please other people's aesthetic standards but your's. Have a good holiday month y'all.

Gorgeous ornaments! Love the vintage vibe. You should raise up the tree on a platform so it better fits the room since you have such tall ceilings now. I remember seeing that at malls (in the US) in the 70's and 80's where they had trees up on big blocks. Maybe give it a try?? You never know!

I was born 1955. We never had a silver tree, my mom couldn’t stand them. We always had a beautiful green tree with lovely traditional and sentimental ornaments. Back in the day, we never tried to match our holiday decor with our house decor theme. We just decorated for Christmas. Enjoy!

I was born in the 50's. Most people I knew, including me, always had real trees. And, of course, icicles! Also, big colored lights with angel hair covering them to soften the glow.

I literally rearrange my house every year for Christmas and it is never the same. I always try and center a tree in a window. Always use more than one tree. Love the orange glass ornaments!

We went through x-mad stuff ourselves with stringing popcorn for garlands around the tree. The ornaments were homemade citrus slices and apple slices and glitter pine cones and wax and dough ornaments. That was the 70s

I grew up during the 50s 60s and 70s, we never had a metal Christmas tree, it was always real or faux evergreen tree, but there was silver tinsel on it every year. By the way if you choose to put tinsel on your tree, it MUST be put on one strand at a time. Enjoy and have fun!

I feel like you would appreciate the "true" retro tree - a green tree with multi colored lights, funky-shaped and bright colored mercury class ornaments and tinsel!

I did a Scandinavian tree with vintage mercury glass bulbs & I think it still has the MCM vibe.

I've just sat down with a peppermint hot chocolate! Your timing is impeccable 😍🎄
Edit: love the nutcracker, he's giving festive Voldemort with his lack of nose. Also those light bulbs as decorations are 😍

I love seeing Becky learn this style! Why do you guys not do videos together anymore? I do love the individual videos, but I miss you guys tackling videos together.

I’m still dreaming of the orange chair left behind in the antique store lol. Loving the pants, ornaments, yellow top and the vases as candle holders too ❤
