As a person who has been thrifting sense childhood these r good tips. Also there’s a good chance that places like good will and others will have a TAG SALE! These sales give a % off depending on the day of the week and color of tag. Best days to go are the day before they restock. A lot of the time they want a lot of stuff out so they can make space for new stuff so it’s going to be marked down.

I remember when thrifting used to be a cheap way to get clothes for low-income households. Now it's become more expensive and "trendy" which is one of the main reasons why it's more expensive

measure your body before going, and bring the measuring tape along, so you'll know for sure you'll fit the clothes.

wear leggings and/or long sleeve tight-fit gym shirts so you can slide into the clothes without them touching your skin, especially those with sensitive skin. I don't, but I don't want them to touch my skin since I'll be thrifting for hours on end

A good rule is to learn to spot good fabrics at a glace, and with your hands. First look at the fabric, THEN the pattern and size.

My mom and I have been below the poverty line our whole lives, and she is really good at finding good stuff at the thrift store and reselling it for a profit. Biggest tip from her, do NOT skim thru the aisles! Not as a beginner, at least. You miss a lot of good stuff that way. I used to skim aisles, tell my mom there was nothing good in that aisle, and she’d look for herself and find AMAZING things. I always thought she was magic, but she just doesn’t skim. I miss the days when only poor people knew about thrift stores. I used to be able to go to my local goodwill or village thrift in hs and get gorgeous vintage pieces, designer and name brands for a couple dollars. Now they’re overpriced, filled with fast fashion that is falling apart and anything remotely good is snatched up by a 19yo trying to make a $800 thrift haul for tiktok.

I bring a retractable tailor's measuring tape. That way you can quickly measure the garments to see if they're going to fit you. Size numbers mean so little, especially when doing true vintage shopping (old sizes are smaller) or in our international day and age (no way am I a Korean size medium!!!)
