Nutrition Tier Lists: Seafood

Показать описание
As a subset of meat, seafood is fairly unique food group that often heralded as a delicacy in many places. It possesses many unique qualities in terms of nutrition, both beneficial and detrimental. Today, we're going to be breaking down the most popular options to see which ones have gone under the radar and which ones may leave you swimming with the fishes.

Also, sorry if this list seems lacking when compared to the others. I really didn't have as much to say about a lot of the fish.

What I Would Change:
1. Sardines were brought down a tier due to a high Omega 6 to Omega 3 ratio. What I somehow failed to mention is that this is not actually a reflection of the fish itself, but the oils they almost always come packed in. Somehow the USDA Food Database didn't have just sardines. If you get plain sardines, free of additives and oils, I would put them in the A Tier.
2. I want to double down on a point I made earlier about Mercury, specifically as it pertains to Swordfish. In hindsight I would move it down a tier due to its high concentration of mercury, but I felt that judging strictly based on that wasn't telling the whole story.

All nutrient data is pulled from the USDA's National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference.

For anything that doesn't make sense, there's always a chance I made a mistake (I did in this video) so always check the description because that is where I will make corrections.
ALSO I tried to cover the most popular seafood on this list. Let me know if there are any others you would like me to cover should I ever make a part 2!

These Tier lists are 10x better than anything I can learn in a health class, its easy to consume highly applicable & relevant information that immediately makes my life better & healthier.

Edit: I am mostly meaning in a highschool health class, of course college courses could teach this but my high school health was a joke & I cannot remember any of it now.

somebody should do a challenge playthrough of real life where they only consume things that have reached S tier on one of these nutrition tier lists. Healthiest person alive.

I was expecting someone who didn’t know actual nutrition to be making a list when I clicked on this.
I was genuinely and pleasantly surprised when you ranked a high calorie food in the upper tier.
Someone actually did their homework, bravo.

I LOVE that you included freshwater fish. Ocean seafood is helpful, but I spend every summer filling my freezer with bass, catfish, crappie, and other freshwater fish so that was pretty awesome.

You should do a dairy tier list, including alternative cheeses and milks!

My favorite food group. I LOVE any food that comes out of the water. Oysters are amazing, I could slurp them up all day. I intellectually can understand how people would see them as gross but I cannot be there with you, man. Soooo good.

One comment on salmon: the nutritional info you got is probably based on wild-caught salmon. However, a lot of salmon (especially the more-affordable stuff) is farmed these days. The nutritional profile of farmed salmon will depend heavily on what they're fed (which may vary from place to place) and feed may also introduce contaminants not present in wild fish.

I LOVE these videos so much. I feel like so many sources will go into the bare minimum of information (blueberries are good because they have/are antioxidants or whatever), and you go so deep. It’s fantastic.

How weird that octopus and cuttlefish are so much healthier than their close relatives, squids. I assumed they'd be about the same.

I just came back to this channel yesterday afternoon to check for a seafood list and was disappointed to not see one yet. This was at the top of my recommendations this morning and made me a happy girl! Thank you!
