Canon EOS 60D Review

Just over the $1,000 crest within the digital camera landscape, there resides a formidable force of mid-level DSLRs. The Canon EOS 60D is one of the shining stars next to the Pentax K-7 and Olympus E-3, but the fiercest competition comes from the Nikon D7000. Testing both the Canon EOS 60D and Nikon D7000 side-by-side was not only a top quality adventure, but also a study in technological advances that have transpired within the mid-level DSLR market. Both cameras record Full HD 1080p, offer multi-point AF, and crank out low noise images at high ISO levels. Canon's new EOS 60D has a flip-out, rotating LCD screen, a few image effects, and boosts the megapixels to 18.0. We feel that the Nikon D7000 edged out the EOS 60D at the end of our journey, but the Canon EOS 60D is still one of the best DSLRs in its class.

5:14 You got is right on the money, I am not bias toward either brand. But your opinion about that color issue is exactly what I hate about Canon. I love the 60D for its swiveling LCD screen and the superior video quality forgetting the auto-focus issue. But that warm color issue in still mode is intolerable. This same problem is evident with every canon and Nikon I have owned. Nikon always have very realistic more natural looking colors while canons' looks very warm or artificial.

Great reviews, I watch them eventhough I just got a Canon SX30 IS camera for Christmas :) By the way do you know if you can turn off the beeping when you press buttons ?

@infosyncvideos Mike your review is excellent, yea I would never expect you to mess with those settings while doing a caparison like this. I was just curious to know that if there was a way to manually adjust the color/white balance settings so that it can perform like the Nikon natural colors or is that even possible?. Traditionally that color issue is my only annoyance with Canons.

Thank you so much for the review. Have a great new year.

I wish to buy one of these:

Canon 60D wins. I bought the Nikon D7000(with 18-105) and it did had back focusing problems as many users report on the web. Having pictures constantly out of focus ruins such an otherwise capable camera. After wasting 2 months and Nikon could not fix it(3 times in service), I returned it to the shop and got the Canon 60D (with 18-135 - a much better lens than the Nikon) and I am happy ever after. The D7000 might look good in some specs but is the image quality that matters. So glad igot ridof it

nice --- so where were you before Christmas? I was looking at the D7000 and dropping hints like crazy. Didn't get it. BUT don't feel too bad for me --- she got me a D300s. Don't think I'll be to sad now !!!! Just came in today. She pared it up with a Nikor 18 to 200mm lens. Looking forward to getting creative .

A few moths ago I purchased the k-x, and it is a little champion of a camera. Unfortunately, or fortunately, I just inherited 3 nice canon USM lenses: 20-34, 35-135, 100-300mm. Is the 60D a better camera to upgrade? The last thing I want is to spend more and go backwards.

Hey Mike Is there a way to fix that color issue that you mentioned at 5:14 in the 60Ds color balance setting to at least match the D7000 color output?

hey, good review, ...do you happen to know if the Canon EOS 60D has the color accent feature like some simpler canon cameras? ...i know i'm a boob, but i liked that feature on my old canon, and was hoping to upgrade, but have my cake and eat it too, LOL. ...thanks for your time. kind regards, jAckie messenger (songwriter/ singer/ guitar-girl =)

He never mentioned that the D7000 is about $200-$300 more than the 60D, and manual focus can be a good thing at times.

I'm trying to decide which one I should buy Nikon D7000 or Canon 60d. I keep going back to wanting to buy the Canon 60d because I personally think Canon cameras take better resolution pictures. But, the Nikon seems pretty nice since it has a better build quality rather than the Canon 60d body. The only problem is, is that all the Nikon lenses don't work with all of the Nikon lineup. As to all Canon lenses work with all canon's. Basically Nikon= Better build quality, Canon=Better picture quality

I got the 60D after returning the nikon D7000, I didnt believe it had the back focusing problem and my lcd had tint color issues!!!!

But Im not a canon fanboy or nikon. i will be getting the D800e for sure!!!

ouch.... h264 is the smallest, most compressed format available. and this is why premiere struggles on your macbook. not because the files are so huge but because they are so small! try transcode into prores first, the files you get are probably 10 times bigger than the h264 from your cam, but editing is so much faster...also, going from cf to sd cards is a step back, not ahead...
