Despite their name, raccoon dogs are not raccoons nor are they closely related to them, but they are dogs after all, there are two different species of raccoon dog, the Chinese Raccoon Dog (Nyctereutes Procyonoides) and the Japanese Raccoon Dog (Nyctereutes Viverrinus), interestingly, the closest living relative of the raccoon dogs is the Bat-Eared Fox (Otocyon Megalotis), raccoon dogs got their name mostly by their mask-like black patches on their eyes similar to raccoons, raccoon dogs have many predators such as hyenas, cats, martens, wolverines, bears, and other dogs such as wolves, jackals, and dholes.
