The raccoon dog (Nyctereutes Procyonoides) is a wild animal belonging to the Canidae family. The raccoon dog is therefore a dog, rather than a raccoon. Despite their outward resemblance to raccoons, these animals are genetically related to domestic dogs, foxes and wolves, and are considered a species of wild dog. This animal is a basal or ancestral species, which means they have remained relatively unchanged since they first diverged from other canid species. They are the only extant species of the Nyctereutes genus, and there are six recognized subspecies of raccoon dogs across Asia and Europe.

In fact, they can often be found in urban areas if there is a small amount of forest. There have also been sightings in places such as Shinjuku. Although they live in forests, they live close to humans.
I myself have seen it many times in Itabashi Ward, one of Tokyo's 23 wards, where I live.
It is against the law to capture wild animals, so do not do anything if you see them. It is also prohibited to give food

ironically raccoons have become a invasive species in japan because of the pet trade because people think they look like little tanukis and now they probably compete against each other for the same food

As shown in the video, raccoons are familiar wild animals in Japan. Although they are very vigilant, they often appear in seclusion, so raccoon dogs have been treated as yokai since ancient times. Currently, the number of individuals tends to increase in Japan, causing various problems, so they are sometimes treated as vermin.

I'm so confused. Is it a dog? Is it a raccoon? A dog that looks like a raccoon...someone was playing with another species. I won't tell 🤣🐕🦝

Many people think that when they see similarities between animals and between humans and apes, that evolution is the reason, but they never consider that it is because we have the same creator.
