I'd recommend you try to tone down the Ethyl Vanillin, and replace part of it with Vanilla Bourbon natural. it will bring up the cost, but the bourbon aspect will mix beautifully with the spices you have in there.

Also trying to use something like Pink Lotus absolute or yellow Frangipani may give it more of an exotic edge. (Both are available at Hermitage oils)

Lol the music choice was perfect...gives it that mysterious primordial soup vibe that I so often feel when I'm working in a new fragrance.

I love these kinds of videos! Your approach is the best of both worlds, the drops vs. weight, a calculated formula vs. improv. I'm stuck with a notebook and drops myself, but I can see the revisions can happen much more smoothly this way. Great job!!

I'm always curious what maceration does. I'm also curious what the thoughts of natural vs. synthetic finished vibes are, seeing as people seem to value the distinction so highly. I don't think they realize just how synthetic a lot of the notes are (albeit naturally derived isolates or inspired by natural materials) in perfumes that they're calling 'more natural smelling' IMO.

Great video! Thanks for sharing your work, Nate!🎉

Nice video. Ive never seen how perfume is made.

I had a house mate who was a perfumer and he made something really close to Club Black. Maybe you should contact him. His name is Zach and he has a brand called 'Maison De Darius'. He makes oriental middle eastern style perfumes. He has nice perfume called 'Louisiana Zen'. I think you should feature his perfumes on your channel.

Thanks for sharing your experience and thought process for creating! Have you ever checked out the book “Scent and Chemistry”, by Günther Ohloff, et al?

Sam included an interesting "Vanilla Extender" in his new booklet, submitted by an anonymous author, that might be worth looking into. It includes materials like anisyl acetate, para-Cresol and phenylacetic acid, none of which I've worked with; although the guaiacol, eugenol and benzyl salicylate I absolutely agree with. Coumarin, habanolide, isobutavan and maybe a bit of rum ether like Wasser likes to use might be good additions. Hellova lotta DPG in sweet formulas too to dissolve and carry some of those larger crystals and solids, but despite it being an odourless solvent, I've always wondered how formulas would do without it. I'll be looking into Karmawood myself! Really appreciate the vid Nate!! 💛

Wow this video is superb ❤.
I am all about the vanilla 😍.
Can I use vanilla planifolia essential oil instead of the ethyl vanillin crystal?
What weight (or how many drops) should I be expecting for a similar 6% of this essential oil?

Also, is ethyl vanillin sweeter than vanilla planifolia?

Lastly, how long for does it take to macerate?
Thanks

Can we all just appreciate that this man made a spoon 🥄 out of a pipette. Being the genius I am 😂, I have been using my scent strips for spoons🤦🏽‍♂️. Before you judge me, I’m cheap so I don’t want to pay for little spoons smh
