I flew First Class in the early 2000 from the UK to California. I was sitting in my alloted seat when this young kid came up to me and said I was in his seat. I asked him to have a word with the flight attendant. They both came back and the flight attendant asked me to follow her. She took me upstairs to First Class. I had loads of foot room, was given a glass of Bubbly, had the window seat and it was a great experience. Very comfortable. The kid probably didn't realize that I was happy to give up my seat to him! Didn't pay a penny more for being upgraded.

You forgot to tell that the credit card you use for the Skyclub costs $500 a year and is worth it if you fly Delta a lot.
The better card if you are willing to pay that kind of money is the Amex Platinum card because you can use the Amex lounges plus priority club lounges all over the world. Delta dies not have Skyclubs outside the United States plus with the points you earn with the Amex Platinum you can use them to book tickets in any other airline not with the Delta card.

Never been first class but have been business class for international flight. It was sweet, I had access to the lounge also. I saw what the first class looks like passing by to my seat and they look amazing plus they had better meals and selections. I hope to get into first class one day on an international flight.

You can go to the Sky Lounge arrival and departure on the same day. I did the lounge in Philly and my arrival in ATL on the same day. Fun Fact

Flew first class on delta and tried getting into sky lounge and was turned away. I now upgraded my Delta AMX card to gold and shall try again to get into lounge

During the mid-1960s I travelled with the military across the Pacific Ocean. It was common practice for me to book "
space available." More often than not it seems seats in first class were the first to become available. Whatever the causer or reason, I usually ended up in first class.
