Through youthful digressions and times of depression
My childhood's impression still clung to my mind
And at school or at college, the basis of knowledge
I never could gulp 'til with whiskey combined

Omg this is my favorite song to hear Hozier song, and you've done a fine job! 🥃

Loving that Irish accent that you have adopted here! In my opinion, you are the single most talented singer on Youtube. No tricks, no 50+ harmonies, no filters - just 100% talent.

This is far and away the best thing from Hozier that I've heard. And that's not an insult aimed at him, either.

Vinny! you’re the first person I’ve seen on all of YouTube to sing a duet version of this ~80 year old song.
If you have it in you do you think you could come up with a Baritone/Bass harmony for this Irish song? My buddy and I would just kill to sing this but neither of us has a tenor voice! Much love!

your modernised version is much preferred. however, for comparison here is the previous version:
Come guess me this riddle: what beats pipes and fiddle?
What's hotter than mustard and wilder than cream?
What best wets your whistle? What's clearer than crystal?
What's sweeter than honey and stronger than steam?

What will make the dumb talk? What will make the lame walk?
The elixir of life and philospher's stone
And what helped Mr. Brunel to dig the Thames Tunnel?
Wasn't it poteen from ould Inishowen?

So stick to the cratur' the best thing in nature
For drowning your sorrows and raising your joys
Oh lord, it's no wonder, if lightning and thunder
Was made from the plunder of poteen me boys

You should cover longest johns bones in the ocean. It needs a high high part.

Would you mind singing the Cliffs of Dooneen?
Unless you’ve already sang it, or don’t want to, or any other reason!

Does everyone only sing this one small portion of the song?

Thames lol. Pronounced “tems” because us English folk are weird.
Amazing singing.

Wonderful to listen - but shouldn't it be Inishowen, with an H after the S?

Beautiful! But it when it refers to Isambard Kingdom Brunel (1806-1859) you’ll have to modify your pronunciation slightly: it’s Brunèl (Brunell).
