I'm almost 80 year-old and and a Sam Cooke fan since I was a teen. This is one of his best creations. This song brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. Thank you for this selection and your thoughtful words. I lone your analysis.

Yes Sister I'm an Australian Aboriginal and I'm right there with you. I've got to say I'm 72 and I've been very lucky while a lot of my people, not so lucky. At the same time it didn't matter to me what your background was, if you needed help I would not hesitate to help because to me we are all the same. And that attitude got me into a lot of trouble with my own people. Anyway take care Sis. And I really wish things where different and there are people from all walks of life that are really good people.

This is by far the greatest song ever recorded concerning the suffering of the poor and oppressed.

Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" is spine chilling and spot on hopeful commentary!

I’ve heard this song so many times, and I’m a 28 year old white dude, I’m certainly not coming from the same place he was coming from, but at this point in my life, it hits perfect. It perfectly expresses how I feel inside, so desperate for a change, trying to hold on just a little bit longer for something good that’s hopefully right around the corner. It’s just amazing how a song written about a totally different situation, from a completely different person, was not only created for that....it was also created for me, and dozens of other people in different situations. Somehow one song connected all of us. To me songs like this just keep affirming to me that some things are just 10000% meant to be. This song was meant to be written and meant to be recorded exactly how it was, by Sam Cooke specifically, and it was meant to be there for us when we needed it. In the past couple of years, I’ve struggled with my belief in what’s beyond all of this, and lately, more and more songs come around that I’ve probably heard endless times, and they hit me in such a way that I think “there’s no possible way everything is just random and meaningless.” There just can’t be. Everything is far too perfect. Music does that for me. If there were no music, I’m confident I couldn’t live in this world. It may be all I’ll ever have, but it may be all I’ll ever need.

It's so good to see another generation fall in love with Sam Cooke. He was a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's first class of inductees -- founding fathers of R&R. Sam was in good company, along with Elvis, Little Richard, James Brown, Ray Charles, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Jimmie Rogers, Fats Domino, The Everly Brothers, and Buddy Holly.

This song is so simple but the words stir something deep inside you.

He sings those first words and I get goosebumps and tear up at the same time, every time.

Sam Cooke was Muhammad Ali's favorite singer. Sam wrote "A Change Is Gonna Come" in response to hearing Bob Dylan's "Blowing In The Wind", and he said I could write one of these.

Though I was extremely young when cousin Sam was taken. I fall apart even while texting about Sam. I thank God for the love from David, LC, and Agnes.. Sam was a beautiful talent and a wonderful soul. I enjoyed singing lead and even traveling with Sam's old Gospel Group the Soul Stirrers..I had so much more I desired to share but I get emotionally distraught even while texting about Sam Cooke. May God continually hold and Love ❤️ you.. Is my prayer.. Thank You so much my Gorgeous Sister. And you're Loved

They should play this at all protests, it would be calming but also reflective.

Know what I mean.

All the best.

Cheers.

Hello Royce,

The illegitimate daughter of Sam Cooke lives in my hometown of Syracuse NY. She some 10 years ago became executor of her Father Sam’s estate. She told me this 3 years ago or so. She said that her father held her at birth and then left her and her mother.
❤🙏
Well just thought you might appreciate this trivia about this singer that many probably didn’t know!!❤

Sam Cooke was a big favorite of mine as a teenager. He still is. I was 16 when was killed. I never stopped listening to his music. This song always makes me so emotional. It is sad but so full of hope. Still it has been a long time coming.

Sam Cooke to me had the best voice, he could get just close to a rasp and then be smooth as butter in an instant. Unique. Love his music. EDIT. Stop watching the news. The news wont let us unite. In fact it wants us apart, far far apart.
