Hoof shoes are definitely a thing! Primarily used for cosplay reasons, but they're usually an adapted and decorated version of a heel-less high heel with strong support at the front.. I've always found them awesome and terrifying (because I would break my ankle just looking at them too closely), also someone cosplayed as a unicorn-satyr and made sparkly hoof shoes and that's what started my love for them

We do love our dance dads. My friend in highschool had been injured most of the last year and was slowly watching her hopes of joining a company slip away. Had seen the local PT who was supposed to be great for dance, a couple orthopedists, been to two of the best fitters in town trying everything but had a knee that just would not stop hurting and randomly refusing to bear weight.

She went to visit her dad for Christmas (parents were divorced, she lived with mom) and was gimping around. Dad, who played college football and had at one point been on the verge of an NFL career, knew she’d been struggling with injuries but didn’t know how bad it was. He decided his baby girl was not going to keep muddling through like that and miss out on her dreams if he had anything to say about it. He called up an old team mate of his that had ins with a sports medicine person who treats pro athletes. Had her an appointment 3 days later. That doc wasn’t very familiar with dancers but did a ton of research, requested consults with some of the best dance medicine people in the world, and finally got my friend feeling better. We lost touch after graduation, but last I heard she had a couple offers to join training/reserve companies, all because of a dance dad who wasn’t going to take no for an answer.

Note on the tiny pointe shoes: If they are like the ones I had back in the 80's from Capezio, they were made the same way pointe shoes which were actually wearable were made, so yes, they have that smell.

My mom did ballet for ages. She unfortunately stopped because she became too tall for partnering and too buxom (this was the early 80s). She has the highest dang arches I have ever seen and it is so hard for her to find comfortable shoes. So glad I did not inherit that

Look I took ballet when I was like ten, but got mad I wasn’t immediately swanning around in pointe shoes and quit lol. I never lost my love for it though, and I’ve learned so much here! ❤ Josephine!
