Lying is not always a bad thing, just like you said with reason number 4, people lie to protect them selves from any harm, especially when you have kids. We have to teach them stranger danger! Telling the truth to strangers isn’t a good thing because they can use that information in a bad way and twist it.

The Bible is clear that lying is a sin and is displeasing to God. The first sin in this world involved a lie told to Eve. After planting seeds of doubt in Eve’s mind with a question, he directly contradicts God’s Word by telling her, “You will not certainly die” (Genesis 3:4). With that lie, Satan led Eve to her death; Adam followed, and so have we all.
lying is ultimately the work of the devil. Jesus taught, "You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies" (John 8:44). But we are called to be truth-tellers. Being truthful is precious to God; it demonstrates the fear of Lord. Furthermore, to tell the truth is not a suggestion, it is a command. The Christian faith is built on the promises of a God whose promises are always fulfilled. He is a God of truth, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth. Jesus called Himself the way, the truth and the life ( John 14:6), and He expects those who follow Him to be people of truth. The truth is to be expressed in love (Ephesians 4:15), offering hope to those seeking redemption from the lies of the world.
Proverbs 12:22
"Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, But those who deal truthfully are His delight."
Be a delight to God today. What a precious proverb! If God delights in you, your future has no bounds. How can you easily obtain God’s favor? By honesty and truth in your dealings! Simply speak the truth and be a man of your word. We belong to the Lord, and may we honor Him 100% with every gift He has given us.

People definitely like lying about how much money they have just to not feel embarrassed, especially when you’re out with your friends. You want to be able to fit in without judgement.

It's cool to see the different reasons for lying. Would like to see the effects of lie/no lie from individuals. I do believe that it's better to not lie unless your in danger or protecting someone. Thanks

Number 9: it could be a person like an unfaithful man or woman lying to you to keep you in control.

I was just having a conversation with my partner about this. I started to go over reasons to lie from an ABA stand point, whether it be to escape from something personally aversive or gain access to something. It's interesting though, there were a few reasons that I didn't even think about, for example, lying to escape embarrassment or to win admiration. I do think, however, number six and eight, are two forms of lying that I see most often from others. It makes me wonder if certain lies are more common once you reach a certain age. For example, getting out of social interactions is that more common in individuals who are 25 and older?

That is extremely interesting about the study in New Guinea where the people isolated from the rest of the world had the same facial expressions to indicate their emotions. I strive to be a person who, flat out, doesn't lie. I believe that on the INCREDIBLY RARE moments when I would be tempted to stray from my code and be less than forthcoming would be for survival and/or to protect those closest to me.

I agree with reason number number one, my kids at work are always lying just to save their own butts.

My child at work that I work one to one with would always lie to me about if he had a good day the day before if I had a sub because he knows that if he didn’t have a good day he wouldn’t earn.

I can definitely relate to reason number 6. Whenever my friends ask me to out on the weekends and I don’t feel like going I would lie and tell them I’m working haha
