A woman has been elected president for the first time in Mexico's 200-year history. Claudia Sheinbaum, a climate scientist and former Mexico City mayor, is the projected winner after Sunday's election. Ryan Berg, director of the Americas program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, joins CBS News to discuss how Sheinbaum's win could impact U.S.-Mexico relations.

For context: The current ruling party is the highest backed political party and the highest backed president in decades as Mexicans finally managed to kick out the corrupt elite that ruled over Mexico for 80 plus years. The current president has the second highest approval rating of any president in the world and Sheinbaum is his successor who won by a land slide too.

Did he call "reign" the term of the president? How biased are these two clowns.

So much misinformation here. AMLO did NOT pick Sheinbaum. "Democratic backsliding in Mexico???" Are you kidding me?? Look at the U.S. for C sake.

Claudia is not the first Jewish Mexican presidente. Carlos Salinas de Gortari who was the 60th president of Mexico from 1988 to 1994, and he is a Sephardic Jew.

Mexico is a Sovereign, an Independent Country, not a colony of the US, or any other countries
This Government of Mexico isn't at US service. The US needs Mexico just like Mexico needs the US commerce. Now, Mexico has the opportunity to grow the economics
Thanks to AMLO,

Once Mexico under UMLO no longer subordinated to the US, it started to grow economically. Claudia says that she will continue with the fourth transformation. So foreign corporations have to continue paying taxes as any other corporations.

The U.S is a big part of the problem with the violence in Mexico the Americans are the biggest drug consumers in the world, they help a lot with supporting the rich cartels, Hopefully Sheinbaum and the president of the U.S can do something about this problem.

She wasn’t picked by her predecessor. Misogyny is ingrained in American men but they can’t see that.

You are being bias. You are not focusing on the positives fact AMLO has done for Mexico and how the economy has improved in all mexicos history.

At least Mexico can have elections where the candidates aren’t crying about the election being rigged if the outcome isn’t in their favor.

They never talk about the scholarship, about the poverty been reduced, about the raising of the minimum wage etc etc, only the bad stuff.that happens. There are a lot of good things happening in Mexico for the Mexicans, if your favorite transnational is not doing as well because is not stealing from Mexico as much, well, I am not sorry.

You think Mexico can help us on schools crimes against our kids. At the beginning of Lopez Obrador I did not like him during covid but in time I noticed how Mexico is improving that's when I noticed he is a good President. Maybe we can learn something from him.
