President Sheinbaum is not Mexico's first president of Jewish heritage. Salinas de Gortari is of Sephardic heritage. He obtained Spanish citizenship in proving his family fled to Mexico due to the Spanish Inquisition. Plutarco Elías Calle was also likely of Sephardic origin.
