Russia is amassing a vast shadow fleet of tankers as European Union sanctions loom on Moscow's oil exports over the war in Ukraine. With about a month left for the sanctions to kick in, questions are now being asked about whether the measures will be enough to ensure that Moscow can transport its oil to buyers. Reports say a large part of Russian flows will be handled by a complex and often secretive network of ships, owners, and ports dominated by entities still willing to deal with Russia. So, can Russia still continue to export its oil? What steps have been taken to ensure smooth flow of oil out of Russia? What will happen if Russia decides to turn off the oil tap? Zakka Jacob explains in the latest episode of CRUX Decode.

First off I love you having spoken audio on your video. Whether you appear on them or not. This was fantastic. I hope to see a lot more like this. I loved it.

I also loved the clarity of your presentation. It really helped me see the situation in a way I had not contemplated. It was a great piece. Thank you again.

STS sounds like an environmental disaster waiting to happen.
Insurance companies will be terrified to take this on ?

LOL - "Russia Amasses Shadow Fleet Of Tankers". Firstly, no company in their right mind would do this due to lack of insurance. Secondarily, the number of tankers not in use today is tiny. Maybe when the recession hits full swing then tankers will have excess capacity. But right now whatever Putin is massing is minor compared to how much Russian oil was pumped through his pipelines. It may take years for Putin to make a dent to this volume previously sent by pipeline. My view there aren't enough available tankers in the World to carry such a huge volume of oil. Back in January, 2022, Russia was shipping more than 2.5 million barrels of oil per day through its pipelines. The largest super tankers can only take 2 million barrels and it takes Russia 47 days to ship to China and 30 days to ship to India its largest clients. Compare that by pipeline of 2.5 million barrels per day. Just more Media p*rn with no realistic explanations.

If Russia stops producing oil the oil wells stop functioning, they only have limited storage facilities, the last time a major field stopped pumping it took Russia (Via Western companies) 30 years to bring it back online (They are already flaring free gas into the atmosphere) Ship transfers are dangerous and expensive due to handling costs, insurance will therefore come at a premium. The options Russia has left for itself while continuing its illegal and barbaric war in Ukraine are uneconomical and will greatly affect its economy!?!

My country of America needs to step up oil production in our own backyard and reopen the pipeline from Canada

Would you risk a tanker leaving before December 5th an being unloaded before 15 February, or get fined and only get paid the capped price. How can you trust the G7 to be honest traders, have you seen all the ships sitting for weeks in the sea of Spain holding oil and gas, waiting to be unloaded.

There is sufficient capacity in the World's oil producing nations to make up for any shortage if Russian oil is no longer available, most would appreciate the expanded market!

1000 mysterious ships is not something you can hide very easily.

I'd be fairly sure the EU would notice 1000 oil tankers going missing.

Also the oil price cap relies on the delivery price of the Russian oil being enforced by the insurers. But ships using this method simply would not have such insurance. They would not have documentation to say where they loaded their oil and their transponders would not include such a route anyway. Also no shipping company wants to be uncovered cheating. The penalties and costs of that would be prohibitive. They would never get an insurer to cover that ship again.

am surprised that everyone believes that Russia will continue to be able to produce oil in big quantities.
The big players left Russia and if anything breaks in the production chain, who will fix it? I doubt that Rosneft and Gasprom have to know how.
Halliburton and Siemens Energy won't help.

Price cap is just a celophane term for shortages.

They can't cut off the oil supply.Their facilities wil freeze up and the wells will be irreparably damaged. They have to keep the flow going.See the analyst Joe Bloggs channel for a mass of detail on an ongoing basis.

I'll be honest. Europe has for a very long time been transitioning towards renewable energies. We have been around for thousands of winters, and we survived a brutal recession the previous decade. We couldn't care less. We have already stored our gas reserves to full capacity for this winter and Scandinavia is stupidly rich in oil, starting with Norway, and democratic unlike... the 'Siberian conservatives'. We honestly couldn't care less. And Europe is not like you see on vacation postcards, we have a few snow slopes in Germany and in the north but most of it is sweating hot for most part of the year. We are not Russia. Can Russia survive without military supplies and weapons? Without conscripts to slaughter anymore? With internal rioting in the battlefront, and thousands of Ukrainians now with full rights and Russian citizenship ready to sabotage their oppressor from the inside out? Russia should have stayed behind its borders...

As I understand cost of oil and the tanker value for insurance purpose is how the price cap will the amount of oil being carried by each tanker will be insured at a value matching the estimated $65 per barrel....secondly the interest shown by India and China is heavily discounted they can buy at the bargain price cap discount without sanctions from the West or complaints by most of the tankers are insured and probably controlled by the West they will have the lions share of the although there is a pipe to China it is too small to increase what they already is a long way away and a small new major other important thing is oil cannot be turned off or even reduced significantly without major problems of as the major technical oil companies have already pulled out it is likely stopping or reducing Russian oil would make the site it seems to me that Russian is like a hamster on a wheel.

Price cut won't work. It will make Crude oil very expensive.
