How To Add A New Ball Of Yarn
When you're knitting a large item there's going to be one thing that's pretty much guaranteed. You'll be using more than one ball of yarn.
And that means working out how to switch from one ball to another.
Do you simply tie a knot and keep knitting?
Is it better to start a new ball of yarn at the beginning of a row, in the middle or at the end?
Watch the full video for three options, depending on the type of item you're knitting.

I love your channel! I knit continental mostly so I had a hard time thinking about how to transfer the techniques. But I do know English so I can switch to English for a few rows. I have never seen anyone knit as fast as you using English knitting! Well done!

Thank you so much for this video! I'm knitting a scarf as my first bigger project, and my yarn is running low - excited to use one of these when it's time! ❤

Hi Hannah! Hope you’re keeping well with quarantine, I absolutely love your channel!! I’m only 16 and started knitting maybe a year and a half ago just as a pas time but due to corona, as sad as it is, it’s been perfect for me to take my knitting a bit more seriously to keep me sane!! and your videos are helping me greatly, so thanks x

I normally use the first one or a magic knot. I do like the look of that weaving as you go one though.

I tend to join on the edge and leave nice long ends for sewing up if I’m knitting a garment. I have used the weave as you go but really don’t like it especially on thicker yarns

Hi Hannah,
I am in the process of knitting a sweater and need to add a new ball in the same color. It is knitted from the neck down flat, cast on stitches across the front, and then joined in the round for the body. You do have to pick up stitches around the neckline and knit the ribbing. Because the beginning of the row is along the neckline, should I use method #1?
Thank you for your wonderful videos!

Hello! I had to join new yarn when purling & completely messed it up because I have no idea how to do that. Can you tell me how to join yarn when purling? I didn’t know if the old yarn tail should stay in the front or move it to the back. Thank you!

Is there a particular way that works best when knitting in the round? The hat I'm making takes more than 1 ball of wool so I know I'll have to swap at some point. It's also got cabling to add into the mix 🤦🏼‍♀️

Hi Hannah - I have used the first method but always get a big loop stitch where the join is - can you suggest anything
Thanks - love your vids xx
