Like you said anyone that doesn't accept you isn't for you. That's a toxic individual that should be avoided. Others might try to destroy your self esteem, by laying guilt trips on you. Because their trying to find a way to control you. Or they don't want to see you succeed. One shouldn't try to always please everyone, especially if they don't appreciate you. If one sees someone that's down. Pick that person back up by providing encouragement. Providing that individual accepts help from you. If the individual declines then respect that person's decision. At least you tried & were willing to help. The bottom line be yourself & don't be what others want you to be.

I used to keep quiet about my spiritual beliefs especially with my family because of their religious beliefs until one day I realized that if they can discuss their religious beliefs openly and I am respectful to them then I will speak up about my beliefs and I will demand respect back, I am tired of hiding my true self because I love who I am and what I stand for and I keep my distance from anyone that tries to shut me down even if it's family, I've never been able to speak up for myself until the last few years and I'm not about to shut up now
