This fight in Empire is my favorite. Luke gets obliterated by Vader who is merely testing his limits. You see the penultimate protagonist struggle against an indomitable opponent. This is what the newer films lacked: no character growth, plot armor and macguffins, etc. Luke's suffering is palpable.

I love how the second Luke barely touches him. 5:28 Vader looses it and promptly stops toying with him. Shows how much growing luke did when he came back in Return of the Jedi

As much as I love highly choreographed fights such as duel of the fates and Anakin vs Obi Wan, there’s a charm to the simplicity of this duel.

I love how there was mostly no music in this duel. Only on two segments of this entire duel, but other than that, no music. Kinda builds up the tension.

In case you ever forget how much of a genius John Williams is, listen to 3:23-3:34 again. Yes, that's the three-note motif from Episode I's "Duel of the Fates." The dude was calling back to prequels he hadn't even scored yet.

I first saw and fell in love with Star Wars in 1994 when I was 9. They are my favorite movies of all time...and this scene has always been the best. Everything about the duel is genius. I just love it.

I love this entire scene/movie, but at 4:44 is probably my favorite of this duel. Scary how Vader pops out of nowhere and with this combat engagement he seems to amp up the intensity with his breathing, movement and attacks. Almost like he's stalking Luke. Chills man, brrr!
