True, true, true!!! My ex blamed me for EVERYTHING wrong with our marriage. She completely dismissed the reality that a relationship is TWO people. And afterwards it was confirmed that she had an affair and a new lover. So she was trying to protect her Christian beliefs (and those of all of her friends who soon turned on her when they saw her lies) and her self-image by saying we had a terrible marriage. I was there the whole 35 years we were together. I know otherwise----we had a good marriage which needed a tune-up, but she was bored and wanted a new, more exciting life. I was raised by a single mother until 12 years old. I admire her for her selflessness. She raised my disabled sister herself when the doctors told her to put her in a home and forget about her. In my past experience I’ve learned that when I’m in a long term committed relationship with a woman and I try to express things with compassion about something that’s bothering me, she takes that compassion as kindness and then equates that kindness with weakness which then gives her a way to justify her ability to ignore my comments. It makes her see me as a doormat that she can continue treating in any way she so pleases and my feelings are then conveniently disregarded and dismissed.
