Here's how much PS5 storage space you're actually getting on a new Playstation 5 for games! While Sony says you get 825 GB of SSD memory on PS5, it turns out you get much less than that! In this video, I show you how many GB of storage space you should actually expect on a brand new Playstation 5. New PS5 users should strongly consider both M.2 SSD Expansion upgrades & external USB 3.1 Hard drive for PS5. This will guarantee that you get the best Playstation 5 experience. On a new PS5 you can only expect to get 667 GB of SSD memory for games & apps.. That is far less than 825 GB! ...

If you're interested in which External HDD & M.2 SSD upgrades I recommend, you can use the links below to purchase my recommendations from Amazon! They are influencer affiliate links, so if you do decide to purchase - It will help support the channel! Thank you in advance.

Anyone else running out of PS5 internal storage yet?

Tbh, I don't know why Sony launched the PS5 with 825GB (667GB in fact). Knowing that recent games will take a lot of space, maybe a 1TB SSD is expensive but nowadays is a must.

Because of the wealth of additional data storage options, devs have been increasingly carefree when it comes to being efficient with space. Before developers had to work within the confines of physical media. But now we have games like Battlefront 2 that take up 100GB+ of space. Major developers need to stop passing the buck to consumers when it comes to lazy compression.

“3.1 USB external drive”
Ah yes, the PS5 memory card.

I went and purchased a WD 12tb external HHD for my Xbox Series X. I keep 10 of my most played games on the internal SSD. The rest on the HHD. I currently have over 50 games downloaded in total.... with only 11% of total storage used. Most of them I downloaded from the massive library of games that Game Pass offeres. Transferring between the WD HHD to the internal SSD usually takes 2-4 minutes on average depending on the size of the game. It's definitely the best way to go.

The WD 12tb hard drive cost me $350 off Amazon

It sucks really, having a "825GB" console that only gives you around 650 GB of storage, and to expand it you need a pretty expensive and capable SSD to fit the PS5's needs. Also the built in one is soldered on the board, so if you choose to use the internal and just keep deleting and installing games it will wear out and become slow or completely die, and since it's soldered you need to replace the whole motherboard

I'm still waiting for SSD prices to come down, I play like 2-3 games consistently so there's no rush for me right now. Great tip about the trophies, I'm glad I turned that off

This is especially helpful for games like call of duty which is a whooping 300GB which is already half your storage space. Video game Developers need to take notes and reduce the download needed to play a game.

I’ve got two external hard drives and I’ve put in the SSD drive (cost more than the PS5 itself) all at 2TB each.

I don't own a ps5, but as far as i know the playstation 5 now has a system (kraken) to compress games files up to 42%, so instead of a game being 100gb it's now 58gb, so it's like we have 1-1, 5 terabyte memory anyways

Yeah I've had my PS5 for about 6 months now and I always use a external drive to store and play my PS4 games, and also I put my PS5 games that I'm not playing at the moment on it as well and just transfer them back to the main system if I wanna play them. If you keep doing that then you won't have to worry about running out of internal storage space.

Good video and I agree with everything you said. One thing though, if you stay away from or keep any of the new COD games on an external drive you should be set. I haven't come across another game that takes up that much space on my PS5 yet and I have quite a few installed already.

I found that using a USB drive for my PS4 games goes a *really* long way toward alleviating the problem. Allowing the SSD to be used ONLY for PS5 games really helps it go a lot farther.

I had an external hard drive hooked up to my PS4, which I disconnected before trading it in for a PS5. To my surprise, upon hooking it up to my new console, all my games were still there. I didn't need to reformat the drive to use it, nor were the games encrypted to a single console. It saved me hours of redownloading games.

This is the way it works for most electronics not just a PS5. If this was a surprise to you, you didn't pay attention to your cell phone or computer, or expandable storage, or anything else for years that this has been the case. My cell phone promotes having 128G but it's actually like 100 once the system uses what it needs to run

I recently bought the WD Black SN850 1 TB internal drive. Easy to install and runs games beautifully. Price is at $200, it's on sale for $50 off

Another factor to take into consideration is the conversion of units. I don't know what scale it uses, but 825 GB in the 1000's scale is equal to 768 GiB in the 1024's scale. So straight up you it seems like you "loss" almost 55 "GB".
Even so, 100+ Gigs for the operating systems is insane; I mean not even a fresh install of Windows takes 100 Gigs.

I don't remember previous consoles with huge memory. You just have to manage I don't think you're ever gonna get a couple of TB
