Sony, pls
In a move that will rightfully have people questioning the advent of an all-digital future, Sony has confirmed that hundreds of Discovery TV shows will soon be completely removed from PlayStation platforms — even if you've purchased them through the PS Store.

"As of 31 December 2023, due to our content licensing arrangements with content providers, you will no longer be able to watch any of your previously purchased Discovery content and the content will be removed from your video library," reads the rather sudden announcement. That same page includes a full list of all the Discovery shows that are being wiped — and it's a long one.

It's unclear exactly why Sony's previous agreement with Discovery has been axed, although it's worth noting that the network merged with Warner Bros. last year. It's possible that a new deal will be struck down the line, but as of right now, PlayStation users are about to lose access to a trove of digital media that they may have already paid for.

This certainly isn't the first time that stuff has been removed from the PS Store and people's purchase libraries, and you can bet it won't be the last. But this latest announcement is already sparking plenty of renewed debate over digital ownership rights, the necessity of things like physical media, and the underlying morals of piracy.

Will this mass deletion of Discovery shows impact you at all? Does this kind of thing make you question digital purchases? Raise an eyebrow at the mention of 'all-digital future' in the comments section below.

A wise man once said:

"If buying isn't owning,
Pirating isn't stealing"

There needs to be class action law suits that force corporations to refund customers their money when they revoke licences from people like this. There also needs to be laws passed that make digital content that you paid for similar to owning a hard copy.

If I buy a digital game it should be mine forever. Gamers need to let their wallets do the talking. We as consumers have to draw the line somewhere.

I’m starting to think there needs to be a legal precedent for this issue.

I'm trying to stay physical from now on and I try to make sure everything I get is completely on the disc or cartridge. I would like to see more consumers go physical so this digital future goes backwards.

I've been telling people for years you won't actually own your games you will just be renting smh😢

I’m worried about the future of gaming also, which is why I only buy physical copies of the game .

Ive always bought physical games, but i like to collect. It's not quite as satisfying having a collection of digital its also a great time to buy for the ps4 BTW, boxed games are super cheap👌

Sorry to break it to you all guys but physical copies also require updates from time to time and 1 update can make that game unplayable + no more first update after install to seal off any new installations will do the trick with the same damage. Remember that they can ban your console entirely if they find enough motives to, do you think they can't ban games too from your system? Each new generation is more and more less secluded like the old one, it's more and more accessible from the devs.

This issue can sadly regard all of us indiscriminately, at some point. It's just super bad and has to be blocked my a law that either doesn't allow that OR give us the same money we gave to the store to buy it the first day. if not it's non other than stealing.

This already has happen on PS3, over 8000 things in my PS3 Library drop to 4000😑

And yes some of those were games in DLC that was taken away.

I predict class action lawsuit if Sony deletes content from customers who purchased digital content or any other company for that matter

I feel really bad for the people that bought the original digital Ps5. It was always better to go with the disk Ps5.

This has been an issue since digital media has been for sale. You're not buying a show, movie, or game. You are buying a license which can be revoked. It absolutely sucks but we did sign up for it. This happened when ultraviolet went down a few years ago too. Physical media forever!! ...with the actual game on the media, not just a license/installer.

I think they would be stupid to take digital games away, we would all protest and stop buying digital releases. Then they have to ramp up production for physical.

Companies know & take advantage of us living in a society of instant gratification. If I pay full price, sometimes more, for a digital download of a game I should be able to trade/sell it. Or a digital version should cost significantly less... there is no physical game... no cost of warehouse shipping... shelf space ect. I don't understand why digital games don't come discounted to factor all that in. Except companies know we are willing to pay to have it NOW. and when consumers are willing to pay, corporations will always be willing to take our money.

They try that with games I smell a lawsuit in the future

This video I agree with the uploader this time. Digital BUY should mean BUY. If you sell software, you should keep servers live to be able to keep your games. And don't tell me it's too expensive. They could literally do this to some degree by taking a bunch of old ass hard drives hooked up somewhere and just keep three copies and when one corrupts, replace it as someone who DL's and it DL's bad they can call it in.

I mean companies already make us pay them to test their new games. All they need to do is pick up the e mail or phone when we tell them one went bad.

Making it to where you can lose what you bought because it is digital is theft. Doesn’t matter about the license or anything for a game or media. You buy it you own it. Doesn’t matter what you say
