Imagine how much cheaper it would be to identify and slingshot a rock full of metals from a belt drone to a factory 'catch location' on the moon, instead of launching it from the ground.

Right now the items with the largest amount of return would be microcircuitry. Have you examined what goes into making chips? Up there you can have the cleanest clean room possible. Complete control of placements is possible. No unintended contamination from the environment. A package of products would be worth more than the price of launching.

The most comprehensive step to being a space faring race is to build a viable structure on the moon using available resources on site. When that is accomplished then larger facilities can be constructed and maintained within reason, and we can take larger steps into the vast expanse of space.
