"SpaceX Starship is a BIG MISTAKE!", Scientists revealed...

Two decades ago, the latest owner and CEO of Twitter, Elon Musk founded SpaceX, a rocket company to someday send people to Mars, and he has said for years that he will make space travel as easy as hopping on a plane.
As he stood in front of a gleaming steel spaceship, it was tempting to start believing him. “It’s really gonna be pretty epic to see that thing take off and come back,” Musk said.
But that is the hypnotic nature of such showcases. The flashiness of the affair, the giddy confidence of the host—these can almost elide the unspoken hitch here, that building an interplanetary spaceship is really really difficult.
Can Starship be a big mistake?
Let's see what famous scientists and engineers just explained about that.

Starship—which is being built at a Texas site dubbed “Starbase”—consists of a giant spaceship on top of a large booster, known as Super Heavy. Both can land back on Earth so they can be reused, reducing costs. The entire vehicle will be capable of lifting 100 metric tons (220,000 pounds) of cargo and people into space on regular low-cost missions.

The volume of usable space within Starship is a whopping 1,000 cubic meters—big enough to fit the entire Eiffel Tower, disassembled.
For most, this massive size is admirable.

However, the Mars Society President and Aerospace Engineer Dr. Robert Zubrin said: "that a problem with Starship is that because it’s so massive it takes a great deal of facilities to be able to refuel it, so he anticipates that the few Starships that first land on Mars will stay on Mars."

To begin the Mars colonization effort, the rocket company's mission will be to deliver a massive amount of cargo, including vital equipment to Mars, and possibly robots with capabilities to set everything up before the first human arrival. Part of the first deliveries to Mars could include supplies such as power generators, large batteries, and solar panels that would aid to build/power a propellant plant to refuel Starship and eventually come back to Earth. Zubrin pointed out that it would take 6 to 10 football fields of solar panels to refuel Starship within a 500-day stay on Mars.

I worked in the spaceflight business for 32 years. My father worked in it for 31 years. I never saw the amount of innovation in my own company and that of the rest of the industry that I have with SpaceX during all my years of working in the business. People love to criticize Musk, but it strikes me that his concept of increasing the failure rate to learn from mistakes and his avoidance of analysis paralysis is what has propelled him past the rest of the competition. Go SpaceX.

Some of these guys are like the critics of early cars saying "We shouldn't build automobiles because we will need lots of fuel stations and construct roads to go anywhere, why bother?" First you build the transport, then design and build the surrounding infrastructure. SpaceX is not so short sighted to not realize that.

Having worked for Martin Marietta and Boeing; both Blue Origin and Space X caught my attention early on. But by the time the Falcon 1 made orbit, it was obvious Space X had a “working” formula.

But the thing that sold me was the design of the Falcon 9. Having worked on the Titan IV, the Falcon 9 looked like a larger, manufacturing streamlined Titan. More amazing because the lessons they applied to manufacturability, we had derived by the mid 80’s. What we could not get from Congress was the funds to a better launch vehicle manufacturing process.

Innovation happen’s when you get off your butt and do more than talk.

If you don't try, you'll never do it!
It's really as simple as that!
When Falcon first made its landing, I was stunned beyond words!
When they got two to do it at the same time, my jaw is still on the ground.

Even if starship is one big mistake with somebody's got to have the balls to make it

ZerbIn said Starship couldn’t land on the moon because it would blow a crater and fall over.
Is he completely unaware that the Starship’s lunar version has small thrusters far up the side of the ship to address that very problem?

1000 cubic meters at 100 passengers, is 10 cubic meters per passenger, is around 2.15m x 2.15m x 2.15m of personal space for everyone. Without any storage, without any seats... These 100 passengers are a pipe dream, I think considering the long flight time, which is months, 20 passengers would be a good number.

six years ago the same people said we would never be landing and reusing boosters. Since then it has been done over 150 times. 'Nuff said...

People claiming something isn't possible should never interfere with the people actually doing it!

The scientist that think that Starship is a bad idea, do they work for Blue Origin or Boeing?

I’m optimistic that we’re going multi-planetary in the next few years, my only regret is that I’m too old to go myself😢

I remember you: You're the guy that told Chris Columbus the earth was flat and you are doomed!

Starship *_IS_* the "mini" version.
Musk already said the "next" version will be the bigger ship.

Zerbin isn't working at Starship...what he thinks has no bearing whatsoever on Starship plans. Everyone following Starship development knows a special version of Starship with upper landing thrusters is being designed to eliminate the issues of bottom mounted rocket engines creating dust plums during Moon landings.

Neil said one small step, we are waiting for the next giant leap. I believe Mr. Musk will make that leap.

And just a few years ago reusable booster rockets were unthinkable....

It takes a true visionary not just science to get men to Mars.

I agree on the Mars Society on the "FIRST" starship" that will land on mars will actually stay on mars unless refueled by someone/something, but I disagree with those who say starship is a failure or impossible

Are these the same scientists that kept telling everybody they couldn't make a rocket reusable and land on its own?
