Not to be too critical—but there should be proper technique to cut and protect your fingers (ex using the claw method on the hand that holds the onion), as this is supposed to educate viewers—should start with proper way to hold and cut with a knife

Man I know its late at night and i am willing to watch anything when I spend 7 minutes watching someone cut onions.

Kind of disappointing Bon Appetit has stooped to this low level of videos. The host had very weak knife skills and looked like she was about to cut off her fingers. Her technique for cutting the "horizontal" cuts by rotating the onion up is dangerous for no reason. If you keep it flat, you can lay your hand on top so it isnt in the way of the blade. Instead of trying to balance the onion while holding onto a tiny section so your hand doesnt get cut.

Man, I don't like leaving negative comments, but this video made me cringe. Poor technique and knife control, seemed like she had little confidence in what she was doing.

😂 Who's going to grab a pairing knife for vertical cuts then another knife for a different directional cut. Please use a claw grip to protect your fingers and please don't teach people to cut on rounded the side of the vegetable...

I need a video of Gordon Ramsay reacting to this video

Those dicing techniques make me fear for your fingertips.

I appreciate the effort, but clearly the presenter has not spent a decade slicing 10 pounds of onions every morning. And take off those unsanitary rings that cannot be properly washed.

She handles the knife like someone who has never seen a knife before.

The difference between large and small fixed diced is the size.

Would've never imagined

Rachel was incredibly brave for agreeing to do an entire video cutting onions xD I'd be sobbing.

Not gonna lie, I honestly thought she was about to lose a finger when she started the small dice...

Half-moon slices are great for various dishes but they are not ideal for pickled onions. In this case, cutting with the grain is preferable. Do give this a try.

Man this ain’t no pro chef. 1st onion knife handling technique is really bad. Nope. Nope. Nope. Dangerous.

Can someone show her how to make these cuts easier?? Any kitchen newbie trying to follow this video would lose a finger moving around the onion and knife so much!! Also her small dices were hardly smaller than the medium lol

The way she is sawing with her knife is no bueno, that will make you cry MORE. She should be using a sharper knife. Also, this might be personal preference but she does the horizontal cut before the vertical cut and I have NEVER seen anyone do that in 12 years of working in restaurants.
