Back in 1993 Taco Bell would release their most ambitious menu item to date. The 7 Layer Burrito. This culinary risk for Taco Bell would end up being a huge flop. Not for the reasons you would think. Watch the video to find out what doomed that potentially great menu item. Shout out to subscriber Kevin Carr for the inspiration for this video.

1993 . . . when the 80s really ended. I remember Taco Bell opened a restaurant right across from Mission High that year, everyone was getting 7 layer burritos for lunch back then. Awesome video, as always!

here's how to order a 7 layer

select "Cheesy Bean and Rice Burrito" to customize
select "Fresco" style (removes Jalapeño and Cheese sauces, keeping "Beans" and "Seasoned Rice")
add back "3 Cheese Blend", "Lettuce", "Tomatoes", "Guacamole", and "Reduced Fat Sour Cream"

Comes out to $5.14 for me locally atm

I enjoyed the different format, it's a nice change of pace for a now-and-then sort of thing. I enjoy hearing a little history of the food I've enjoyed. Thanks for covering my favorite TB love-hate relationship. I loved the 7 Layer Burrito when it was assembled even close to the right way, hated taking a first bite and discovering that I just ate one whole section of one-note flavor.
